Journal ArticleDOI

Cylindrical sub-micrometer confinement results for the odd-symmetric dimer alpha,omega-bis[(4-cyanobiphenyl)-4'-yloxy]undecane (BCB.O11).

TL;DR: Dynamic dielectric measurements have probed the different molecular motions in both confinements and how these motions are developed in a way similar to the bulk-dimer and proved that the surface-pinned molecular layer adjacent to the pore-wall is temperature-dependent as already found previously for liquid crystal monomers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polymorphism of Cyclopentanol: Crystallographic Characterization of the Ordered and Disordered Phases

TL;DR: The polymorphism of cyclopentanol (C5H10O) has been further investigated by X-ray powder diffraction experiments and it has been found to agree with the most recent thermodynamic study.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of internal flexibility on the double glass transition in a series of odd non-symmetric liquid crystal dimers characterised by dielectric measurements

TL;DR: DieDiez-Berart et al. as mentioned in this paper performed dielectric measurements near the glass transition to analyze the molecular dynamics in the rest of the series and determine the role played by the flexible spacer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Solid phases in cycloheptanol: Dynamic disorder and glass transitions

TL;DR: In this paper, the stable solid polymorphism of cycloheptanol (C 7 H 14 O, for short C 7 -OH) is revised and four solid stable phases, denoted on cooling from the liquid as phases I, II, III and IV are identified from X-ray diffraction measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cooperative behavior of molecular motions giving rise to two glass transitions in the same supercooled mesophase of a smectogenic liquid crystal dimer.

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed analysis of the glassy behavior and the relaxation dynamics of the liquid crystal dimer α-(4-cyanobiphenyl-4'-yloxy)-ω-(1-pyrenimine-benzylidene)-4'-oxy) heptane (CBO7O.Py) throughout both nematic and smectic-A mesophases by means of broadband dielectric spectroscopy was performed.
