Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Bariatric Surgery on CKD Risk.
Allon N. Friedman,Abdus S. Wahed,Junyao Wang,Anita P. Courcoulas,Gregory Dakin,Marcelo W. Hinojosa,Paul L. Kimmel,James Mitchell,Alfons Pomp,Walter J. Pories,Jonathan Q. Purnell,Carel W. le Roux,Konstantinos Spaniolas,Kristine J. Steffen,Richard C. Thirlby,Bruce M. Wolfe +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined whether bariatric surgery influences CKD risk and found that treatment with Bariatric surgery associated with an improvement in CKD in a large proportion of patients for up to 7 years, especially in those with moderate and high baseline risk.

TL;DR: Treatment with bariatric surgery is associated with an improvement in CKD risk categories in a large proportion of patients for up to 7 years, especially in those with moderate and high baseline risk.

The Association Between Kidney Disease and Diabetes Remission in Bariatric Surgery Patients With Type 2 Diabetes.
Allon N. Friedman,Junyao Wang,Abdus S. Wahed,Neil G. Docherty,Erin Fennern,Alfons Pomp,Jonathan Q. Purnell,Carel W. le Roux,Bruce M. Wolfe +8 more
TL;DR: Remission of type 2 diabetes 5 years after bariatric surgery was associated with improvements in albuminuria and stabilized prognostic risk for CKD, but not with eGFR, which highlights the need to identify the mechanisms through whichbariatric surgery may delay the long-term progression of CKD in type 1 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Precore and Basal Core Promoter Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Variants Are Present From a Young Age and Differ Across HBV Genotypes.
Daryl T.-Y. Lau,Lilia Ganova-Raeva,Junyao Wang,Douglas Mogul,Raymond T. Chung,Mauricio Lisker-Melman,Kyong-Mi Chang,Obaid S. Shaikh,Harry L.A. Janssen,Abdus S. Wahed,Anna S. Lok +10 more
TL;DR: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) precore (PC) and dual basal core promoter (BCP) mutations halt and down‐regulate hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) production respectively are examined to examine the association of these variants with HBV genotypes, age, and HBeAg status in a racially diverse population in North America.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alcohol, tobacco and coffee consumption and liver disease severity among individuals with Chronic Hepatitis B infection in North America.
Mayur Brahmania,Stephen Liu,Abdus S. Wahed,Colina Yim,Bettina E. Hansen,Bettina E. Hansen,Mandana Khalili,Norah A. Terrault,Anna S. Lok,Marc G. Ghany,Junyao Wang,David Wong,Harry L.A. Janssen +12 more
TL;DR: In this large diverse cohort of untreated CHB participants, at-risk alcohol use, current tobacco use and limited coffee consumption did not have an association with high ALT and FIB-4 values, and significant associations were found between the frequency of these lifestyle behaviors and sociodemographic factors.
