Non-homeostatic body weight regulation through a brainstem-restricted receptor for GDF15

TL;DR: This work identifies glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor receptor alpha-like (GFRAL) as a brainstem-restricted receptor for growth and differentiation factor 15 (GDF15), and identifies a mechanistic basis for the non-homeostatic regulation of neural circuitry by a peripheral signal associated with tissue damage and stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

Separating Tumorigenicity from Bile Acid Regulatory Activity for Endocrine Hormone FGF19

TL;DR: An engineered FGF19 (M70) is described that fully retains bile acid regulatory activity but does not promote HCC formation, demonstrating that regulating bile Acid metabolism is distinct and separable from tumor-promoting activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antidiarrhoeal activity of Cyperus rotundus.

TL;DR: The methanol extract of Cyperus rotundus rhizome, given orally at the doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg b.w., showed significant antidiarrhoeal activity in castor oil induced diarrhoea in mice.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antibody-mediated inhibition of GDF15–GFRAL activity reverses cancer cachexia in mice

TL;DR: A therapeutic antagonistic monoclonal antibody, 3P10, is reported that targets GFRAL and inhibits RET signaling by preventing the GDF15-driven interaction of RET with GFRal on the cell surface and reverses excessive lipid oxidation in tumor-bearing mice and prevents cancer cachexia, even under calorie-restricted conditions.
