Effect of Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy vs Total Abdominal Hysterectomy on Disease-Free Survival Among Women With Stage I Endometrial Cancer: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
Monika Janda,Val Gebski,Lucy Davies,Peta M. Forder,Alison Brand,Russell Hogg,Tom Jobling,Russell Land,Tom Manolitsas,Marcelo Nascimento,Deborah Neesham,James L. Nicklin,Martin K. Oehler,Geoff Otton,Lewis Perrin,Stuart G. Salfinger,Ian Hammond,Yee Leung,Peter Sykes,Hextan Y.S. Ngan,Andrea Garrett,Michael Laney,Tong Yow Ng,Kar Fai Tam,Karen Chan,C. David Wrede,Selvan Pather,Bryony Simcock,Rhonda Farrell,Gregory Robertson,Graeme J. Walker,Nigel R Armfield,Nicholas Graves,Anthony J. McCartney,Andreas Obermair +34 more
TL;DR: Findings support the use of laparoscopic hysterectomy for women with stage I endometrioid endometrial cancer, and among women withStage Iendometrial Cancer, theUse of total abdominal hysteretomy compared with total laparoscopically-guided surgery resulted in equivalent disease-free survival at 4.5 years and no difference in overall survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Uterine smooth muscle tumors other than the ordinary leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas: a review of selected variants with emphasis on recent advances and unusual morphology that may cause concern for malignancy.
TL;DR: The current review discusses the pathologic diagnosis of and terminology applied to selected variants of uterine smooth muscle tumors other than the ordinary leiomyomas and leoomyosarcomas with emphasis on unusual reported features that may indicate malignancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
p21-activated kinase 4 regulates ovarian cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion and contributes to poor prognosis in patients
Michelle K.Y. Siu,Hoi Yan Chan,Daniel S.H. Kong,Esther S.Y. Wong,Oscar G.W. Wong,Hextan Y.S. Ngan,Kar Fai Tam,Hongquan Zhang,Zhilun Li,Queeny K.Y. Chan,Sai Wah Tsao,Staffan Strömblad,Annie N.Y. Cheung +12 more
TL;DR: A significant association is shown between increased expression of Pak4 and its activated form, phosphorylated (p)-Pak4 Ser474, with metastasis of ovarian cancers, shorter overall and disease-free survival, advanced stage and high-grade cancers, serous/clear cell histological subtypes, and reduced chemosensitivity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tyrosine kinase B receptor and BDNF expression in ovarian cancers - Effect on cell migration, angiogenesis and clinical outcome.
Christy W.H. Au,Michelle K.Y. Siu,Xiaoyun Liao,Esther S.Y. Wong,Hextan Y.S. Ngan,Kar Fai Tam,Dominic C.W. Chan,Queeny K.Y. Chan,Annie N.Y. Cheung +8 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that overexpression of tropomyosin-related kinase B (TrkB) was associated with shorter survival in ovarian cancer patients and exogenous hepatocyte growth factor induced TrkB expression at both mRNA and protein levels as well as phosphorylation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beliefs about cervical cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) and acceptability of HPV vaccination among Chinese women in Hong Kong.
Peter W. H. Lee,Tracy T. C. Kwan,Kar Fai Tam,Karen K. L. Chan,Phyllis M.C. Young,Sue S.T. Lo,Annie N.Y. Cheung,Hextan Y.S. Ngan +7 more
TL;DR: Inadequate knowledge and misconceptions on cervical cancer and HPV were common and apart from promoting HPV vaccination, cervical cancer prevention should also include strategies to promote knowledge and minimize the stigmatizing effect of a sexually transmitted HPV infection.
