Dengue virus activates cGAS through the release of mitochondrial DNA

TL;DR: Using a dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2) vaccine strain (PDK53), it is shown that infection creates an endogenous source of cytosolic DNA in infected cells through the release of mitochondrial DNA to drive the production of cGAMP by cGAS.
Journal ArticleDOI

First evidence of Seoul hantavirus in the wild rat population in the Netherlands

TL;DR: This discovery follows the recent findings of SEOV infections in wild and pet brown rats and humans in England, Wales, France, Belgium, and Sweden, indicating an even higher importance of this hantavirus for public health in large areas of Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Non-structural 1 Protein G53D Substitution Attenuates a Clinically Tested Live Dengue Vaccine.

TL;DR: The site-directed mutagenesis on a 16681 infectious clone identifies a single G53D substitution in the non-structural 1 (NS1) protein that reduces 16681 infection and dissemination in both Aedes aegypti, as well as in mammalian cells to produce the characteristic phenotypes of PDK53.
Journal ArticleDOI

Highly Pathogenic Leptospira Found in Urban Brown Rats (Rattus norvegicus) in the Largest Cities of Sweden

TL;DR: This study finds the first finding of this highly pathogenic serovar in Swedish rats since the 1930s, which causes Weil's disease in humans and is an emerging zoonosis of global concern.
