An important part of our information-gathering behavior has always been to find out what other people think. With the growing availability and popularity of opinion-rich resources such as online review sites and personal blogs, new opportunities and challenges arise as people now can, and do, actively use information technologies to seek out and understand the opinions of others. The sudden eruption of activity in the area of opinion mining and sentiment analysis, which deals with the computational treatment of opinion, sentiment, and subjectivity in text, has thus occurred at least in part as a direct response to the surge of interest in new systems that deal directly with opinions as a first-class object.

This survey covers techniques and approaches that promise to directly enable opinion-oriented information-seeking systems. Our focus is on methods that seek to address the new challenges raised by sentiment-aware applications, as compared to those that are already present in more traditional fact-based analysis. We include material on summarization of evaluative text and on broader issues regarding privacy, manipulation, and economic impact that the development of opinion-oriented information-access services gives rise to. To facilitate future work, a discussion of available resources, benchmark datasets, and evaluation campaigns is also provided.

Computer vision : a modern approach = 计算机视觉 : 一种现代的方法

We present a system for interactively browsing and exploring large unstructured collections of photographs of a scene using a novel 3D interface. Our system consists of an image-based modeling front end that automatically computes the viewpoint of each photograph as well as a sparse 3D model of the scene and image to model correspondences. Our photo explorer uses image-based rendering techniques to smoothly transition between photographs, while also enabling full 3D navigation and exploration of the set of images and world geometry, along with auxiliary information such as overhead maps. Our system also makes it easy to construct photo tours of scenic or historic locations, and to annotate image details, which are automatically transferred to other relevant images. We demonstrate our system on several large personal photo collections as well as images gathered from Internet photo sharing sites.

Photo tourism: exploring photo collections in 3D

Most hypotension during chemotherapy is caused by an allergic mechanism. Conversely, non‐allergic hypotension due to chemotherapy is rare. In this case report, we present a patient who suffered severe hypotension followed by the administration of irinotecan‐based chemotherapy and some supportive care such as steroids for preventing emesis. A 71‐year‐old man with hypertension was diagnosed with stage IV small cell lung cancer (sT1cN3M0). Severe hypotension occurred in the patient after every administration of chemotherapy. Finally, he was able to receive all four courses of chemotherapy as planned along with the medical staff’s support care. This case provides that a regimen that contained irinotecan and steroid could cause hypotension and the mechanism is partially explained by inhibiting choline esterase and adrenal insufficiency. We should be careful about non‐allergic hypotension when we administer irinotecan‐based chemotherapy.

Irinotecan‐induced severe hypotension in a patient with lung cancer

The amount of information available on the Web has increased dramatically. This information comes in a wide variety of media types. Therefore, to retrieve information on a topic using conventional search engines, users must search many sites from several different aspects. Thus, it is important to integrate and organize this information from the different sites. We propose an integration and organization system based on a query relaxation approach for cross-media meta-search engines. Frequently, the parameters for information retrieval are too specific or exacting to generate any relevant sites. However, by gradually relaxing the search terms used for information retrieval, we can solve this problem while narrowing the search to sites that are most relevant to the subject being researched. We show several examples of how the relaxation approach works as well as ways in which it can be applied. We also demonstrate the advantages of our approach and future work for this research.

Query relaxation and answer integration for cross-media meta-searches

We developed a mechanism for photographing people and annotating their behavior along with nearby elements using multiple embedded cameras. In addition, we developed a method of dynamically integrating and presenting the recorded content. As conventional cameras are used to photograph objects selected by users, taking pictures that include users while holding the camera is difficult. Security camera systems take pictures that include people and nearby elements, but such systems cannot show the intentions of the people being photographed. After detecting the intentions and behaviors of subjects with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, our system selects the best camera from cameras located in an area, and then the camera photographs the subject and the surrounding area. In addition, these photos can be annotated with information about the context and movement history of the subject. We created a prototype of our system and determined its effectiveness experimentally.

u-Cam: A User-Driven Control Mechanism for Ubiquitous Cameras and Its Content Management

The prevalence of weblogs (blogs) has enabled people to share the personal experiences of tourists at specific locations and times. Such information was traditionally unavailable, except indirectly through local newspapers and periodicals. This paper describes a method of spatially and temporally obtaining specific experiences by extracting association rules from the content of blog articles. For example, we can read about visitors' activities and evaluations of sightseeing spots. By geographically mapping their experiences, the proposed system enables observation of tourist activities and impressions of specific locations, which can often be more diverse than local guidebooks and more trustworthy than advertisements.

The Web contains a wide variety of images published by the general public. Because the image is exposed as part of a Web page, the image is specified by not only the image content, but also the Web content using the image. This generates a gap between the content keywords and the usage keywords of the image. To fill the gap, we propose a concept of “context” of images in the Web. The context of an image is the set of Web contents (e.g. text and images) surrounding the image. We extend the notion of surroundings to include Web contents associated with the image by Web document structure and hyperlinks. We define different types of contexts for an image in accordance with types of associations between the image and the surrounding content. By visualizing context of each image, users can distinguish reliable image content among similar images based on the usage and/or reputation of the image. In this paper, we propose methods for searching and visualizing the context of images. We also propose a method for retrieving images based on their context.
