The Chicxulub Asteroid Impact and Mass Extinction at the Cretaceous-Paleogene Boundary
Peter Schulte,Laia Alegret,Ignacio Arenillas,José A. Arz,Penny Barton,Paul R. Bown,Timothy J. Bralower,Gail L. Christeson,Philippe Claeys,Charles S. Cockell,Gareth S. Collins,Alexander Deutsch,Tamara J. Goldin,Kazuhisa Goto,J.M. Grajales-Nishimura,Richard A. F. Grieve,Sean P. S. Gulick,Kirk R. Johnson,Wolfgang Kiessling,Christian Koeberl,David A. Kring,Kenneth G. MacLeod,Takafumi Matsui,Jay Melosh,Alessandro Montanari,Joanna Morgan,Clive R. Neal,Douglas J. Nichols,Richard D Norris,Elisabetta Pierazzo,Greg Ravizza,Mario Rebolledo-Vieyra,Wolf Uwe Reimold,Eric Robin,Tobias Salge,Robert P. Speijer,Arthur R. Sweet,Jaime Urrutia-Fucugauchi,Vivi Vajda,Michael T. Whalen,Pi Suhr Willumsen +40 more
TL;DR: Records of the global stratigraphy across this boundary are synthesized to assess the proposed causes of the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary and conclude that the Chicxulub impact triggered the mass extinction.
Journal ArticleDOI
New insights of tsunami hazard from the 2011 Tohoku-Oki event
Kazuhisa Goto,Kazuhisa Goto,Catherine Chagué-Goff,Catherine Chagué-Goff,Shigehiro Fujino,James Goff,Bruce E. Jaffe,Yuichi Nishimura,Bruce M. Richmond,Daisuke Sugawara,Witold Szczuciński,David R. Tappin,Robert C. Witter,Eko Yulianto +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report initial results from a recent field survey documenting the inundation and resultant deposits of the 2011 Tohoku-oki tsunami from Sendai Plain, Japan.
Journal ArticleDOI
A numerical model for the transport of a boulder by tsunami
TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a practical model for the transport of a boulder by tsunami, which takes into account the various transport modes, i.e., sliding, rolling, and saltation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The reduction effects of mangrove forest on a tsunami based on field surveys at Pakarang Cape, Thailand and numerical analysis
Hideaki Yanagisawa,Shunichi Koshimura,Kazuhisa Goto,Toyohiko Miyagi,Fumihiko Imamura,Anat Ruangrassamee,Charlchai Tanavud +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the damage to mangroves caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami at Pakarang Cape in Pang Nga Province, Thailand using an integrated approach including satellite imagery analysis, field measurements, and numerical modeling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distribution, origin and transport process of boulders deposited by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami at Pakarang Cape, Thailand
Kazuhisa Goto,Suchana Chavanich,Fumihiko Imamura,Passkorn Kunthasap,Takafumi Matsui,Koji Minoura,Daisuke Sugawara,Hideaki Yanagisawa +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the long axis orientation and size of 467 boulders at the Pakarang Cape in Thailand during the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and found that most of the boulders were well rounded, ellipsoid in shape, without sharp broken edges.
