Journal ArticleDOI
VLT/UVES Abundances in Four Nearby Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies. I. Nucleosynthesis and Abundance Ratios*
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the Ultraviolet Echelle Spectrograph (UVES) on Kueyen (UT2) of the Very Large Telescope to take spectra of 15 individual red giants in the Sculptor, Fornax, Carina, and Leo I dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSph's).
Journal ArticleDOI
The DART Imaging And CaT Survey of the Fornax Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy
Giuseppina Battaglia,Eline Tolstoy,Amina Helmi,Mike Irwin,B. Letarte,Pascale Jablonka,Vanessa Hill,Kim Venn,Matthew Shetrone,Nobuo Arimoto,Francesca Primas,Andreas Kaufer,Patrick Francois,Thomas Szeifert,Tom Abel,Kozo Sadakane +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the structural parameters of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy were derived using wide field imaging covering the galaxy out to its tidal radius, and the spatial distribution of the stars of different ages as selected from colour-magnitude diagram analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
VLT/UVES Abundances in Four Nearby Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies. II. Implications for Understanding Galaxy Evolution*
Eline Tolstoy,Kim Venn,Matthew Shetrone,Francesca Primas,Vanessa Hill,Andreas Kaufer,Thomas Szeifert +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the Ultraviolet Visual-Echelle Spectrograph (UVES) on Kueyen (UT2) of the Very Large Telescope to take spectra of 15 individual red giant stars in the centers of four nearby dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSph's): Sculptor, Fornax, Carina, and Leo I).
Journal ArticleDOI
A new view of the dwarf spheroidal satellites of the Milky Way from VLT flames: Where are the very metal-poor stars?
Amina Helmi,Mike Irwin,Eline Tolstoy,Giuseppina Battaglia,Vanessa Hill,Pascale Jablonka,Kim Venn,Matthew Shetrone,B. Letarte,Nobuo Arimoto,Tom Abel,P. Francois,P. Francois,Andreas Kaufer,Francesca Primas,Kozo Sadakane,Thomas Szeifert +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the metallicities of a large sample of stars in four nearby dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSph's): Sculptor, Sextans, Fornax, and Carina.
Journal ArticleDOI
A high-resolution VLT/FLAMES study of individual stars in the centre of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy
B. Letarte,Vanessa Hill,Vanessa Hill,Eline Tolstoy,Pascale Jablonka,Pascale Jablonka,Matthew Shetrone,Kim Venn,Matthew Spite,Mike Irwin,Giuseppina Battaglia,Amina Helmi,Francesca Primas,P. François,Andreas Kaufer,Thomas Szeifert,Nobuo Arimoto,Kozo Sadakane +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of a high-resolution FLAMES/GIRAFFE abundance study of 81 photometrically selected, red giant branch stars in the central 25 of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy.
