Journal ArticleDOI
A mature cluster with X-ray emission at z = 2.07
Raphael Gobat,Emanuele Daddi,Masato Onodera,Alexis Finoguenov,Alvio Renzini,Nobuo Arimoto,R. J. Bouwens,Marcella Brusa,Ranga-Ram Chary,Alessandro Cimatti,Mark Dickinson,Xu Kong,M. Mignoli +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported evidence of a fully established galaxy cluster at z = 2.07, consisting of a ∼20σ overdensity of red, compact spheroidal galaxies spatially coinciding with extended X-ray emission detected with XMM-Newton.
Journal ArticleDOI
A high-resolution VLT/FLAMES study of individual stars in the centre of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy
B. Letarte,Vanessa Hill,Vanessa Hill,Eline Tolstoy,Pascale Jablonka,Pascale Jablonka,Matthew Shetrone,Kim Venn,Matthew Spite,Mike Irwin,Giuseppina Battaglia,Amina Helmi,Francesca Primas,P. François,Andreas Kaufer,Thomas Szeifert,Nobuo Arimoto,Kozo Sadakane +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of a high-resolution FLAMES/GIRAFFE abundance study of 81 photometrically selected, red giant branch stars in the central 25 of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wide-field precision kinematics of the m87 globular cluster system
Jay Strader,Aaron J. Romanowsky,Jean P. Brodie,Lee R. Spitler,Michael A. Beasley,Michael A. Beasley,Jacob A. Arnold,Naoyuki Tamura,Ray M. Sharples,Nobuo Arimoto +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented the most extensive combined photometric and spectroscopic study to date of the enormous globular cluster (GC) system around M87, the central giant elliptical galaxy in the nearby Virgo Cluster.
Journal ArticleDOI
A kinematic study of the andromeda dwarf spheroidal system
Michelle L. M. Collins,Scott Chapman,R. Michael Rich,Rodrigo A. Ibata,Nicolas F. Martin,Nicolas F. Martin,Mike Irwin,Nicholas F. Bate,Geraint F. Lewis,Jorge Peñarrubia,Jorge Peñarrubia,Nobuo Arimoto,Nobuo Arimoto,Caitlin M. Casey,Annette M. N. Ferguson,Andreas Koch,Alan W. McConnachie,Nial R. Tanvir +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a homogeneous kinematic analysis of red giant branch stars within 18 of the 28 Andromeda dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies, obtained using the Keck I/LRIS and Keck II/DEIMOS spectrographs, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gradients of Absorption-Line Strengths in Elliptical Galaxies
Chiaki Kobayashi,Nobuo Arimoto +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors restudied line strength gradients of 80 elliptical galaxies and calculated mean stellar metallicities for individual ellipticals, and found that the mean metallicities of these galaxies do not correlate with any physical properties of galaxies, including central and mean metallicity, central velocity dispersions, and dynamical masses of galaxies.
