Journal ArticleDOI
Diabetic retinopathy before and after cataract surgery.
TL;DR: Poor glycaemic control was a factor of importance for the progression of diabetic retinopathy after cataract surgery, and patients in this study obtained good visual acuity, better than in most previous studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multi-factor dimensionality reduction applied to a large prospective investigation on gene-gene and gene-environment interactions
Maurizio Manuguerra,Giuseppe Matullo,Fabrizio Veglia,Herman Autrup,Alison M. Dunning,Seymour Garte,Emmanuelle Gormally,Christian Malaveille,Simonetta Guarrera,Silvia Polidoro,Federica Saletta,Marco Peluso,Luisa Airoldi,Kim Overvad,Ole Raaschou-Nielsen,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Jakob Linseisen,Heiner Boeing,Dimitrios Trichopoulos,Anna Kalandidi,Domenico Palli,Vittorio Krogh,Rosario Tumino,Salvatore Panico,H. TL;DR: The multi-factor dimensionality reduction (MDR) method seems promising, because it provides a limited number of statistically stable interactions; however the biological interpretation remains to be understood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased incidence of fractures in middle-aged and elderly men with low intakes of phosphorus and zinc
TL;DR: It is concluded that inadequate intakes of zinc and phosporus are important risk factors for fracture in men aged 46–68 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rising incidence of breast cancer among young women in Sweden
TL;DR: The national Swedish cancer registry was used to analyse the age-specific time trends in breast cancer incidence in Sweden from 1970 to 1984 and according to the birth cohort approach there was a statistically significant increase in the incidence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mortality in diabetic patients participating in an ophthalmological control and screening programme
TL;DR: It is concluded that severe retinopathy, use of antihypertensive drugs, and poor glycaemic control predicted death from cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients participating in an ophthalmological screening programme.
