Journal ArticleDOI
Effective treatment of collagen-induced arthritis by adoptive transfer of CD25+ regulatory T cells.
Mary E. Morgan,Roelof Flierman,Leonie M. van Duivenvoorde,Hendrik J. Witteveen,Willem van Ewijk,Jacob M van Laar,René R. P. de Vries,René E. M. Toes +7 more
TL;DR: The data indicate that CD25+ regulatory T cells can be used for the treatment of systemic, antibody-mediated autoimmune diseases, such as CIA.
Journal ArticleDOI
CD25+ cell depletion hastens the onset of severe disease in collagen-induced arthritis.
Mary E. Morgan,Roger P. M. Sutmuller,Hendrik J. Witteveen,Leonie M. van Duivenvoorde,E. Zanelli,Cornelis J. M. Melief,Alies Snijders,Rienk Offringa,René R. P. de Vries,René E. M. Toes +9 more
TL;DR: These results establish a link between CD4+,CD25+ regulatory cells and CIA and provide a rationale for investigating CD4+ T regulatory cells in the treatment and prevention of arthritis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vaccination using oxidized low-density lipoprotein-pulsed dendritic cells reduces atherosclerosis in LDL receptor-deficient mice
Kim L. L. Habets,Gijs H.M. van Puijvelde,Leonie M. van Duivenvoorde,Eva J.A. van Wanrooij,Paula de Vos,Jan Willem Cohen Tervaert,Theo J.C. Van Berkel,René E. M. Toes,Johan Kuiper +8 more
TL;DR: Data indicate that vaccination with oxLDL-pulsed mDCs provides a novel and powerful strategy for the immunomodulation of atherosclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immature dendritic cells suppress collagen-induced arthritis by in vivo expansion of CD49b+ regulatory T cells.
Louis-Marie Charbonnier,Louis-Marie Charbonnier,Leonie M. van Duivenvoorde,Florence Apparailly,Florence Apparailly,Céline Cantos,Céline Cantos,Wanda G. H. Han,Danièle Noël,Danièle Noël,Christophe Duperray,Christophe Duperray,Tom W J Huizinga,René E. M. Toes,Christian Jorgensen,Christian Jorgensen,Pascale Louis-Plence,Pascale Louis-Plence +17 more
TL;DR: It is shown for the first time that repetitive iDC injections trigger the expansion of a novel regulatory population with high immunomodulatory properties, able to protect mice from collagen-induced arthritis, and adopted transfer of <105 TCRβ+CD49b+ cells isolated from the liver of iDCs-vaccinated mice conferred complete protection against arthritis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immunomodulatory Dendritic Cells Inhibit Th1 Responses and Arthritis via Different Mechanisms
Leonie M. van Duivenvoorde,Wanda G. H. Han,A Bakker,Pascale Louis-Plence,Pascale Louis-Plence,Louis-Marie Charbonnier,Louis-Marie Charbonnier,Florence Apparailly,Florence Apparailly,Ellen I. H. van der Voort,Christian Jorgensen,Christian Jorgensen,Tom W J Huizinga,René E. M. Toes +13 more
TL;DR: Studying several immunomodulatory DCs side by side for their ability to modulate T cell responses and autoimmune diseases indicates that distinct mechanisms can be used by distinct DC subsets to change the outcome of autoimmunity.
