Three-dimensional characterization and modeling of diamond electroplated grinding wheels

TL;DR: In this article, a diamond abrasive grain was modeled by a cubo-octahedron that was determined by the intersection between an octahedral and a cube, and the results showed that the predicted morphology of grinding wheels agreed well with the experimentally measured.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of oxygen penetration in silicon due to nano-indentation

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of O2 on the nano-indentation of diamond cubic silicon using molecular dynamics simulation was explored with the aid of the Tersoff potential for Si-Si interactions and the Morse potential for all other interactions, and the results showed that O2 molecule in the appropriate position and orientation dissociates into oxygen atoms, penetrates into the subsurface region and forms chemical bonds with silicon atoms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Applied mechanics in grinding—III. A new formula for contact length prediction and a comparison of available models

TL;DR: In this article, a new formula for the contact length prediction is proposed, and a simple criterion to determine the applicable range of any approximate formulae, and then carefully compare our formula with available models, discuss their characteristics and limitations in application.
Journal ArticleDOI

A micromechanics analysis of the material removal mechanisms in the cutting of ceramic particle reinforced metal matrix composites

TL;DR: In previous investigations on the cutting of ceramic particle reinforced metal matrix composites using the finite element (FE) method, the particles are usually considered to be rigid as mentioned in this paper, which is inco...
Journal ArticleDOI

A Briefing on the Manufacture of Hip Joint Prostheses

TL;DR: A brief review of some of the key aspects of abrasive polishing, including adaptability and sustainability of artificial materials to human body, selection of materials, precision fabrication and efficient replacement operation are provided.
