Journal ArticleDOI

Geological and morphological setting of 2778 methane seeps in the Dnepr paleo-delta, northwestern Black Sea

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed multibeam, seismic and hydro-acoustic water column investigations were carried out to study the relation between the spatial distribution of methane seeps, sea-floor morphology and sub-surface structures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Coexistence of structure I and II gas hydrates in Lake Baikal suggesting gas sources from microbial and thermogenic origin

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported the field observation of hydrate deposits of different crystal structures in the same cores of a mud volcano in the Kukuy Canyon and linked those deposits to chemical fractionation during gas hydrate crystallization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Process length variation in cysts of a dinoflagellate, Lingulodinium machaerophorum, in surface sediments: Investigating its potential as salinity proxy

TL;DR: These results document the existence of two end members in cyst formation: one with many short, densely distributed processes and one with a few, long, widely spaced processes which can be respectively related to low and high salinity/temperature ratios.
Journal ArticleDOI

A large population of king crabs in Palmer Deep on the west Antarctic Peninsula shelf and potential invasive impacts

TL;DR: DNA sequencing and morphology indicate the lithodid is Neolithodes yaldwyni Ahyong & Dawson, previously reported only from Ross Sea waters, and this population provides an important model for the potential invasive impacts of crushing predators on vulnerable Antarctic shelf ecosystems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anomalous sea-floor backscatter patterns in methane venting areas, Dnepr paleo-delta, NW Black Sea

TL;DR: In this article, the relation between acoustic sea-floor backscatter and seep distribution was examined by integrating multibeam and side-scan sonar recordings, high-resolution 5 kHz seismic data, pore-water analysis, grain-size analysis and visual sea floor observations.
