Journal ArticleDOI
Body-Mass Index and Mortality among 1.46 Million White Adults
Amy Berrington de Gonzalez,Patricia Hartge,James R. Cerhan,Alan J. Flint,Lindsay M. Hannan,Robert J. MacInnis,Robert J. MacInnis,Steven C. Moore,Geoffrey S. Tobias,Hoda Anton-Culver,Laura E. Beane Freeman,W. Lawrence Beeson,Sandra Clipp,Dallas R. English,Aaron R. Folsom,D. Michal Freedman,Graham G. Giles,Niclas Håkansson,Katherine D. Henderson,Judith Hoffman-Bolton,Jane A. Hoppin,Karen L. Koenig,I. Min Lee,Martha S. Linet,Yikyung Park,Gaia Pocobelli,Arthur Schatzkin,Howard D. Sesso,Elisabete Weiderpass,Bradley J. Willcox,Alicja Wolk,Anne Zeleniuch-Jacquotte,Walter C. Willett,Michael J. Thun +33 more
TL;DR: In white adults, overweight and obesity (and possibly underweight) are associated with increased all-cause mortality and the hazard ratios for the men were similar.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lung cancer in never smokers: clinical epidemiology and environmental risk factors
Jonathan M. Samet,Erika Avila-Tang,Paolo Boffetta,Lindsay M. Hannan,Susan Olivo-Marston,Michael J. Thun,Charles M. Rudin +6 more
TL;DR: A large fraction of lung cancers occurring in never smokers cannot be definitively associated with established environmental risk factors, highlighting the need for additional epidemiologic research in this area.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lung cancer occurrence in never-smokers: an analysis of 13 cohorts and 22 cancer registry studies.
Michael J. Thun,Lindsay M. Hannan,Lucile L. Adams-Campbell,Paolo Boffetta,Julie E. Buring,Diane Feskanich,W. Dana Flanders,W. Dana Flanders,Sun Ha Jee,Kota Katanoda,Laurence N. Kolonel,I-Min Lee,Tomomi Marugame,Julie R. Palmer,Elio Riboli,Tomotaka Sobue,Erika Avila-Tang,Lynne R. Wilkens,Jon M Samet +18 more
TL;DR: These comprehensive analyses support claims that the death rate from lung cancer among never-smokers is higher in men than in women, and in African Americans and Asians residing in Asia than in individuals of European descent, but contradict assertions that risk is increasing or that women have a higher incidence rate than men.
Journal ArticleDOI
Active Smoking and Breast Cancer Risk: Original Cohort Data and Meta-Analysis
TL;DR: The hypothesis that active smoking is associated with increased breast cancer risk for women who initiate smoking before first birth is supported and suggesting that smoking might play a role in breast cancer initiation is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
A randomised controlled trial of postural interventions for prevention of musculoskeletal symptoms among computer users
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that two specific workplace postural interventions are unlikely to reduce the risk of upper extremity musculoskeletal symptoms among computer users.
