Willett,Michael J. Thun +33 more
TL;DR: In white adults, overweight and obesity (and possibly underweight) are associated with increased all-cause mortality and the hazard ratios for the men were similar.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body mass index, serum sex hormones, and breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women.
Timothy J. Key,Paul N. Appleby,Gillian K Reeves,Andrew W. Roddam,Joanne F. Dorgan,Christopher Longcope,Frank Z. Stanczyk,Hugh E. Stephenson,Roni T. Falk,Rosetta Miller,Arthur Schatzkin,D. S. Comstock,Gary B. Gordon,Miller +45 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined whether the relationship of body mass index (BMI) with serum sex hormone concentrations could be explained by the relationship between BMI and estradiol levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum insulin-like growth factor-I and breast cancer.
Paolo Toniolo,Peter F. Bruning,Arslan Akhmedkhanov,Johannes M.G. Bonfrer,Karen L. Koenig,Annekatrin Lukanova,Roy E. Shore,Anne Zeleniuch-Jacquotte +7 more
TL;DR: Elevated circulating levels of IGF‐I may be an indicator of increased risk of breast cancer occurring before age 50, and there was no association between pre‐menopausal breast cancer and IGFBP‐3, IGF‐i:IGF BP‐3 ratio or non‐fasting levels of C peptide.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating sex hormones and breast cancer risk factors in postmenopausal women: Reanalysis of 13 studies

TL;DR: Sex hormone concentrations were strongly associated with several established or suspected risk factors for breast cancer, and may mediate the effects of these factors on breast cancer risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between Class III Obesity (BMI of 40-59 kg/m2) and Mortality: A Pooled Analysis of 20 Prospective Studies
Cari M. Kitahara,Alan J. Flint,Amy Berrington de Gonzalez,Leslie Bernstein,Michelle Brotzman,Robert J. MacInnis,Robert J. MacInnis,Steven C. Moore,Kim Robien,Philip S. Rosenberg,Pramil N. TL;DR: In a pooled analysis of 20 prospective studies, Cari Kitahara and colleagues find that class III obesity is associated with excess rates of total mortality, particularly due to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
