TL;DR: In this article, the surface morphology of homoepitaxial GaN (0001) grown by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy was studied and the step pattern developed to a wavy surface with a strip-like feature along the [11 ($) over bar0] direction during the subsequent growth of a thick n-GaN layer.

Thermodynamic properties calculation for MgO–SiO2 liquids using both empirical and first-principles molecular simulations

TL;DR: It is found that first-principles simulation modified the thermodynamic properties of silicate melts, and led to positive enthalpy of mixing at high SiO(2) concentrations and negative ones at lowSiO( 2) concentrations.
