Observation of topological phenomena in a programmable lattice of 1,800 qubits

TL;DR: In this article, a large-scale quantum simulation of the Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT) phase transition in the 2D Ising model is presented, where the authors use a quantum processor as a programmable magnetic lattice and demonstrate the emergence of a complex order parameter with continuous rotational symmetry.
