Lorena Avila-Carrasco,Pedro L. Majano,José Antonio Sánchez-Tomero,Rafael Selgas,Manuel López-Cabrera,Abelardo Aguilera,Guadalupe González Mateo +6 more
TL;DR: A systematic review of effective natural plant compounds and their extract that modulates the pathological EMT or its deleterious effects, through acting on different cellular signal transduction pathways both in vivo and in vitro is introduced.
Journal ArticleDOI
Matrix metalloproteinase multiplex screening identifies increased MMP-2 urine concentrations in women predicted to develop preeclampsia.
Margarita L Martinez-Fierro,Aurelio Perez-Favila,Idalia Garza-Veloz,Marcela A. Espinoza-Juarez,Lorena Avila-Carrasco,Ivan Delgado-Enciso,Yolanda Ortiz-Castro,Edith Cardenas-Vargas,Miguel A Cid-Baez,Rosa María Ramírez-Santoyo,Victor Hugo Cervantes-Kardasch,Iram P. Rodriguez-Sanchez,Jose I. Badillo-Almaraz,Rodrigo Castañeda-Miranda,Luis Octavio Solís-Sánchez,J. M. Ortiz-Rodriguez +15 more
TL;DR: Evaluating the usefulness of nine urinary metalloproteinases to predict the risk of preeclampsia development found increased urinary concentration of MMP-2 at 12 and 16 weeks of gestation predicted an increased risk of developing preeclamping in the study population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondria and Mitochondrial DNA: Key Elements in the Pathogenesis and Exacerbation of the Inflammatory State Caused by COVID-19.
José J. Valdés-Aguayo,Idalia Garza-Veloz,Jose I. Badillo-Almaraz,Sofía Bernal-Silva,Maria C. Martínez-Vázquez,Vladimir Juárez-Alcalá,José R. Vargas-Rodríguez,María L. Gaeta-Velasco,Carolina González-Fuentes,Lorena Avila-Carrasco,Margarita L Martinez-Fierro +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the importance of mitochondria in inflammatory pathologies, besides providing energy, is associated with the release of mitochondrial damage products such as mt-DNA, which may perpetuate inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Abnormalities in Glucose Metabolism, Appetite-Related Peptide Release, and Pro-inflammatory Cytokines Play a Central Role in Appetite Disorders in Peritoneal Dialysis
Lorena Avila-Carrasco,Mario Pavone,Elena González,Álvaro Aguilera-Baca,Rafael Selgas,Gloria del Peso,Secundino Cigarrán,Manuel López-Cabrera,Abelardo Aguilera +8 more
TL;DR: In obese patients, leptin expression in fat tissue was down-regulated and showed correlation with the appetite, and the euglycemic–hyperglycemic clamp reproduced these disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of the Potential Risk of Mortality from SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Hospitalized Patients According to the Charlson Comorbidity Index
José R. Gutiérrez-Camacho,Lorena Avila-Carrasco,Alberto Murillo-Ruíz-Esparza,Idalia Garza-Veloz,Roxana Araujo-Espino,Mariano Martínez-Vázquez,Perla María Trejo-Ortiz,Iram P. Rodriguez-Sanchez,Ivan Delgado-Enciso,Maria E Castañeda-Lopez,Araceli Gamón-Madrid,Margarita L Martinez-Fierro +11 more
TL;DR: The CCI is a suitable tool for the prediction of mortality in patients hospitalized for COVID-19, and the presence of comorbidities in hospitalized patients with CO VID-19 reflected as CCI > 31.69 increased the risk of death among the study population.
