Journal ArticleDOI

An extensive reef system at the Amazon River mouth

TL;DR: An extensive carbonate system off the Amazon mouth, underneath the river plume, is presented, providing several insights about the responses of tropical reefs to suboptimal and marginal reef-building conditions, which are accelerating worldwide due to global changes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transcriptomic analysis of the red seaweed Laurencia dendroidea (Florideophyceae, Rhodophyta) and its microbiome

TL;DR: This work describes the first transcriptomic profile of the red seaweed L. dendroidea and unveils the genes involved on the biosynthesis of terpenoid compounds in this seaweed, increasing the knowledge about ESTs from the Florideophyceae algal class.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Deep-Sea Microbial Community from the Amazonian Basin Associated with Oil Degradation.

TL;DR: The concomitant depletion of dissolved oxygen levels, oil droplet density characteristic to oil biodegradation, and BTEX concentration with an increase in microbial counts revealed that oil can be degraded by the autochthonous deep-sea microbial communities.
Journal ArticleDOI

New Insights on the terpenome of the red seaweed Laurencia dendroidea (Florideophyceae, Rhodophyta).

TL;DR: This is the first report on terpene synthase genes in seaweeds, enabling further studies on possible heterologous biosynthesis of terpenes from L. dendroidea exhibiting ecological or biotechnological interest.
