Comparative genomics of the nonlegume Parasponia reveals insights into evolution of nitrogen-fixing rhizobium symbioses.
Robin van Velzen,Rens Holmer,Fengjiao Bu,Luuk Rutten,Arjan van Zeijl,Wei Liu,Luca Santuari,Qingqin Cao,Qingqin Cao,Trupti Sharma,Defeng Shen,Yuda Purwana Roswanjaya,Titis A. K. Wardhani,Maryam Seifi Kalhor,Joelle Jansen,Johan van den Hoogen,Berivan Gungor,Marijke Hartog,J.G.J. Hontelez,J. Verver,Wei-Cai Yang,Elio Schijlen,Rimi Repin,Menno Schilthuizen,Menno Schilthuizen,Menno Schilthuizen,M. Eric Schranz,Renze Heidstra,Kana Miyata,Elena Fedorova,Wouter Kohlen,Ton Bisseling,Sandra Smit,René Geurts +33 more
TL;DR: Based on gene expression in the nitrogen-fixing nonlegume Parasponia andersonii and the legume Medicago truncatula, it is found that nodules in these different lineages may share a single origin, raising the possibility that nodulation originated only once and was subsequently lost in many descendant lineages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Suppression of Arabidopsis protophloem differentiation and root meristem growth by CLE45 requires the receptor-like kinase BAM3
Stephen Depuydt,Antia Rodriguez-Villalon,Luca Santuari,Céline Wyser-Rmili,Laura Ragni,Christian S. Hardtke +5 more
TL;DR: It is reported that second-site null mutations in the Arabidopsis leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinase gene barely any meristem 3 (BAM3) perfectly suppress the postembryonic root Meristem growth defect and the associated perturbed protophloem development of the brevis radix (brx) mutant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of NINJA in root jasmonate signaling
Ivan F. Acosta,Debora Gasperini,Aurore Chételat,Stéphanie Stolz,Luca Santuari,Edward E. Farmer +5 more
TL;DR: A sensitive assay showed that a key repressor of jasmonate responses is active mainly in roots where it permits normal growth, and that JA-like responses can be recapitulated in specific tissues without changing a plant’s ability to make or perceive JA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatio-temporal sequence of cross-regulatory events in root meristem growth
Emanuele Scacchi,Paula Salinas,Bojan Gujas,Luca Santuari,Naden T. Krogan,Laura Ragni,Thomas Berleth,Christian S. Hardtke +7 more
TL;DR: The data suggest a model in which the regulatory interactions favor BRX expression in the early proximal meristem and SHY2 prevails because of supplementary cytokinin induction in the later distal meristsem, which might represent a universal switch in the transition toward differentiation in various developmental contexts.
Journal ArticleDOI
The PLETHORA gene regulatory network guides growth and cell differentiation in Arabidopsis roots
Luca Santuari,Gabino F. Sanchez-Perez,Gabino F. Sanchez-Perez,Marijn Luijten,Bas Rutjens,Bas Rutjens,Inez Terpstra,Lidija Berke,Lidija Berke,Maartje Gorte,Kalika Prasad,Dongping Bao,Johanna L.P.M. TL;DR: This work reveals how the PLT gradient can regulate cell state by region-specific induction of cell proliferation genes and repression of differentiation, and targets include major patterning genes and autoregulatory feedback components, enforcing their role as master regulators of organ development.
