TL;DR: In this paper, the structural, electrical, mechanical, optical, and thermal properties of 2D hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) have been extensively studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multifunctional Bio‐Nanocomposite Coatings for Perishable Fruits
Seohui Jung,Yufei Cui,Morgan Barnes,Chinmay C. Satam,Shenxiang Zhang,Reaz A. Chowdhury,Aparna Adumbumkulath,Onur Sahin,Corwin Miller,Seyed Mohammad Sajadi,Lucas M. Sassi,Yue Ji,Matthew R. Ajayan +23 more
TL;DR: A multifunctional bio-nanocomposite comprised largely of egg-derived polymers and cellulose nanomaterials as a conformal coating onto fresh produce that slows down food decay by retarding ripening, dehydration, and microbial invasion is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Two-Dimensional Lateral Epitaxy of 2H (MoSe2)–1T′ (ReSe2) Phases
Amey Apte,Aravind Krishnamoorthy,Jordan A. Hachtel,Sandhya Susarla,Jongwon Yoon,Lucas M. Sassi,Palash Bharadwaj,James M. Tour,Juan Carlos Idrobo,Rajiv K. Kalia,Aiichiro Nakano,Priya Vashishta,Chandra Sekhar Tiwary,Pulickel M. Ajayan +13 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated how the thermodynamics of mixing in the MoReSe2 system during CVD growth dictates the formation of atomically sharp interfaces between MoSe2 and ReSe2, which can be confirmed by high resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy imaging, revealing zig-zag selenium-terminated interface between the epitaxial 2H and 1T' lattices.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apparent Ferromagnetism in Exfoliated Ultrathin Pyrite Sheets
Anand B. Puthirath,Aravind Puthirath Balan,Eliezer Fernando Oliveira,Eliezer Fernando Oliveira,Vishnu Sreepal,Francisco C. Robles Hernandez,Francisco C. Robles Hernandez,Guanhui Gao,Nithya Chakingal,Lucas M. Sassi,Prasankumar Thibeorchews,Gelu Costin,Robert Vajtai,Douglas S. Galvao,Douglas S. Galvao,Rahul R. Nair,Pulickel M. Ajayan +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a non-van der Waals type ultra-thin nanosheet of FeS2 derived from naturally occurring pyrite mineral (FeS2) by means of liquid-phase exfoliation was identified.
Journal ArticleDOI
Scale-Enhanced Magnetism in Exfoliated Atomically Thin Magnetite Sheets.
Anand B. Puthirath,Sharmila N. Shirodkar,Guanhui Gao,Francisco C. Robles Hernandez,Francisco C. Robles Hernandez,Liangzi Deng,Rabin Dahal,Amey Apte,Gelu Costin,Nithya Chakingal,Aravind Puthirath Balan,Lucas M. Sassi,Chandra Sekhar Tiwary,Robert Vajtai,Ching-Wu Chu,Ching-Wu Chu,Boris I. Yakobson,Pulickel M. Ajayan +17 more
TL;DR: DC magnetization measurements prove ferrimagnetic ordering with increased magnetization and density functional theory calculations ascribe their origin to the low dimensionality of the magnetite layers, and surface energy calculations for different cleavage planes in passivated magnetite crystal agree with the experimental observations of obtaining 2D sheets from non-van der Waals crystals.
