Journal ArticleDOI
The coagulation factor Xa/protease activated receptor-2 axis in the progression of liver fibrosis: a multifaceted paradigm
TL;DR: This work has shown that FXa triggers fibroproliferative and pro‐inflammatory responses in mesenchymal cells and modulates the survival of epithelial cells via PAR‐2 activation, and that targeting FXa in animal models of liver fibrosis results in positive results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetically Modified Lactococcus lactis for Delivery of Human Interleukin-10 to Dendritic Cells.
IL Huibregtse,Sebatian A. Zaat,Martien L. Kapsenberg,Maria A. Sartori da Silva,Maikel P. Peppelenbosch,Sander J. H. van Deventer,Henri Braat +6 more
TL;DR: The spatially restricted delivery of IL-10 by food-grade bacteria is a promising strategy to induce suppressor Th-cells in vivo and to treat inflammatory diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling liver cancer and therapy responsiveness using organoids derived from primary mouse liver tumors.
Wanlu Cao,Jiaye Liu,Ling Wang,Meng Li,Monique M A Verstegen,Yuebang Yin,Buyun Ma,Kan Chen,Michiel Bolkestein,Dave Sprengers,Luc J. W. van der Laan,Michael Doukas,Jaap Kwekkeboom,Ron Smits,Maikel P. Peppelenbosch,Qiuwei Pan +15 more
TL;DR: Interestingly, single cells from the tumor organoids have high efficiency of organoid initiation, and a single organoid derived from a cancer cell is able to initiate a tumor in mice, indicating the enrichment of tumor-initiating cells in the tumororganoids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coagulation factor Xa drives tumor cells into apoptosis through BH3-only protein Bim up-regulation.
Keren Borensztajn,Maarten F. Bijlsma,Angelique P. Groot,Lois W. Brüggemann,Henri H. Versteeg,Pieter H. Reitsma,Maikel P. Peppelenbosch,C. Arnold Spek +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that coagulation factor (F)Xa can drive tumor cells of epithelial origin, but not endothelial cells or monocytes, into apoptosis, whereas it even enhances fibroblast survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
5-aminosalicylic acid inhibits cell cycle progression in a phospholipase D dependent manner in colorectal cancer
Bart Baan,Ashwin A. Dihal,Eva Hoff,Carina L. Bos,Philip W. Voorneveld,Pim J. Koelink,Manon E. Wildenberg,Vanesa Muncan,Jarom Heijmans,Hein W. Verspaget,Dick J. Richel,James C. H. Hardwick,Daniel W. Hommes,Maikel P. Peppelenbosch,Gijs R. van den Brink,Gijs R. van den Brink +15 more
TL;DR: 5-ASA interferes with proliferation of colorectal cancer cells via inhibition of PLD-dependent generation of PA and loss of mTOR signalling, a regulator of cell cycle progression.
