Journal ArticleDOI
RNA polymerase II clustering through carboxy-terminal domain phase separation
Marc Boehning,Claire Dugast-Darzacq,Marija Rankovic,Anders S. Hansen,Taekyung Yu,Hervé Marie-Nelly,David T. McSwiggen,Goran Kokic,Gina M. Dailey,Patrick Cramer,Xavier Darzacq,Markus Zweckstetter,Markus Zweckstetter +12 more
TL;DR: It is reported that human and yeast CTDs undergo cooperative liquid phase separation, with the shorter yeast CTD forming less-stable droplets and that CTD phosphorylation liberates Pol II enzymes from hubs for promoter escape and transcription elongation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure of activated transcription complex Pol II-DSIF-PAF-SPT6.
Seychelle M. Vos,Lucas Farnung,Marc Boehning,C. Wigge,Andreas Linden,Andreas Linden,Henning Urlaub,Henning Urlaub,Patrick Cramer +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that the formation of an activated Pol II elongation complex in vitro requires the kinase function of the positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb) and the elongation factors PAF1 complex (PAF) and SPT6.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms for Active Regulation of Biomolecular Condensates
TL;DR: Two active mechanisms that can explain how cells regulate condensate formation and size are proposed and can guide studies into the many emerging roles of biomolecular condensates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stress-induced nuclear condensation of NELF drives transcriptional downregulation.
Prashant Rawat,Prashant Rawat,Marc Boehning,Barbara Hummel,Fernando Aprile-Garcia,Anwit S. Pandit,Nathalie Eisenhardt,Ashkan Khavaran,Einari A. Niskanen,Seychelle M. Vos,Jorma J. Palvimo,Andrea Pichler,Patrick Cramer,Ritwick Sawarkar,Ritwick Sawarkar +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the negative elongation factor (NELF) is recruited to gene promoters to impair RNA polymerase II elongation, which is required for cellular viability under stressful conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functional Metagenomics Reveals an Overlooked Diversity and Novel Features of Soil-Derived Bacterial Phosphatases and Phytases.
TL;DR: A previously unreported phytase activity of the alkaline phosphatase and sulfatase superfamily and of purple acid phosphatases from nonvegetal origin is revealed, suggesting that the classical concept comprising four classes of phytases should be modified and indicates high performance of the screening method for retrieving novel types of phosphatased/phytases hidden in metagenomes of complex environments.
