Host response mechanisms in periodontal diseases
Nora Silva,Loreto Abusleme,Denisse Bravo,Nicolas Dutzan,Jocelyn García-Sesnich,Rolando Vernal,Marcela Hernández,Jorge Gamonal +7 more
TL;DR: A characterization of the progression ofperiodontitis as a stage that presents a significantly host immune and inflammatory response to the microbial challenge that determine of susceptibility to develop the destructive/progressive periodontitis under the influence of multiple behavioral, environmental and genetic factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of matrix metalloproteinases, especially MMP-8, in gingival creviclular fluid, mouthrinse and saliva for monitoring periodontal diseases.
Timo Sorsa,Ulvi Kahraman Gursoy,Solomon O. Nwhator,Marcela Hernández,Taina Tervahartiala,Jussi Leppilahti,Mervi Gürsoy,Eija Könönen,Gülnur Emingil,Pirkko J. Pussinen,Päivi Mäntylä +10 more
TL;DR: Matrix metalloproteinase-8 can be used alone or together with interleukin-1beta and Porphyromonas gingivalis to calculate cumulative risk score at the subject level as a successful diagnostic tool, especially in large-scale public health surveys, in which a thorough periodontal examination is not feasible.
Journal ArticleDOI
Host-Pathogen Interactions in Progressive Chronic Periodontitis
Marcela Hernández,Nicolas Dutzan,Jocelyn García-Sesnich,Loreto Abusleme,Andrea Dezerega,Nora Silva,Fermín E. González,Rolando Vernal,Timo Sorsa,Jorge Gamonal +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors summarize periodontopathic bacteria and host factors, including infiltrating cell populations, cytokines, and host matrix metalloproteinases, associated with undergoing episodic attachment loss that could partly explain the mechanisms involved in destruction of the supporting tissues of the tooth.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of gingival crevicular fluid MMP‐8 levels with different laboratory and chair‐side methods
TL;DR: Using Western immunoblot, it was confirmed that IFMA and dentoAnalyzer can detect activated 55 kDa MMP-8 species especially in periodontitis-affected GCF.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of progressive periodontal lesions in chronic periodontitis patients: levels of chemokines, cytokines, matrix metalloproteinase‐13, periodontal pathogens and inflammatory cells
Nora Silva,Nicolas Dutzan,Marcela Hernández,Andrea Dezerega,O. Rivera,Juan Carlos Aguillón,Octavio Aravena,Pedro Lastres,Patricia Pozo,Rolando Vernal,Jorge Gamonal +10 more
TL;DR: The detection of periodontopathic bacteria, host matrix metalloproteinases and cytokines in periodontitis patients with lesions undergoing episodic attachment loss could partially explain the mechanisms associated with the destruction of the supporting tissues of the tooth.
