Peri-implant diseases: Consensus Report of the Sixth European Workshop on Periodontology
Jan Lindhe,Joerg Meyle,T Berglundh,Noel Claffey,Hugo De Bruyn,N Heitz-Mayfield,Ioannis K. Karoussis,Eija Könönen,Andrea Mombelli,Stefan Renvert,A.J. van Winkelhoff,Edwin Winkel,Nicola U. Zitzmann +12 more
TL;DR: It was concluded that the treatment of peri-implant disease must include anti-infective measures and it appeared that non-surgical mechanical therapy caused the reduction in inflammation but also that the adjunctive use of antimicrobial mouthrinses had a positive effect.
Journal ArticleDOI
Periodontitis: A Multifaceted Disease of Tooth-Supporting Tissues.
TL;DR: Periodontitis is an infection-driven inflammatory disease in which the composition of biofilms plays a significant role and characteristically results in irreversible loss of attachment and alveolar bone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Actinomyces and Related Organisms in Human Infections
Eija Könönen,William G. Wade +1 more
TL;DR: A comprehensive and microbiologically consistent overview of the significance of Actinomyces and some closely related taxa in human infections is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of microbial biofilms in the maintenance of oral health and in the development of dental caries and periodontal diseases. Consensus report of group 1 of the joint efp/orca workshop on the boundaries between caries and periodontal disease
Mariano Sanz,David Beighton,Michael A. Curtis,Jaime Aparecido Cury,Irene Dige,Henrik Dommisch,Roger Ellwood,Rodrigo A. Giacaman,David Herrera,Mark C. Herzberg,Eija Könönen,Philip Marsh,Joerg Meyle,Alex Mira,Ana Molina,Andrea Mombelli,Marc Quirynen,Eric C. Reynolds,Lior Shapira,Egija Zaura +19 more
TL;DR: The present state of knowledge suggests that the aetiologies of caries and periodontal diseases are mutually independent, and the elements of innate immunity that appear to contribute to resistance to both are somewhat coincidental.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of matrix metalloproteinases, especially MMP-8, in gingival creviclular fluid, mouthrinse and saliva for monitoring periodontal diseases.
Timo Sorsa,Ulvi Kahraman Gursoy,Solomon O. Nwhator,Marcela Hernández,Taina Tervahartiala,Jussi Leppilahti,Mervi Gürsoy,Eija Könönen,Gülnur Emingil,Pirkko J. Pussinen,Päivi Mäntylä +10 more
TL;DR: Matrix metalloproteinase-8 can be used alone or together with interleukin-1beta and Porphyromonas gingivalis to calculate cumulative risk score at the subject level as a successful diagnostic tool, especially in large-scale public health surveys, in which a thorough periodontal examination is not feasible.
