Hypertrophy Dependent Doubling of L-Cells in Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Operated Rats
C. F. Hansen,Marco Bueter,Nadine Theis,Thomas A. Lutz,Sarah Juel Paulsen,Louise S. Dalbøge,Niels Vrang,Jacob Jelsing +7 more
TL;DR: RYGB in rats is associated with gut hypertrophy, an increase in L-cell number, but not density, and increased PYY and preproglucagon gene expression, which could explain the enhanced gut hormone dynamics seen after RYGB.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid and Body Weight–Independent Improvement of Endothelial and High-Density Lipoprotein Function After Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Role of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1
Elena Osto,Petia Doytcheva,Caroline Corteville,Marco Bueter,Claudia Dörig,Simona Stivala,Helena Buhmann,Sophie Colin,Lucia Rohrer,Reda Hasballa,Anne Tailleux,Christian Wolfrum,Francesco Tona,Jasmin Manz,Diana Vetter,Kerstin Spliethoff,Paul M. Vanhoutte,Ulf Landmesser,François Pattou,Bart Staels,Christian M. Matter,Thomas A. Lutz,Thomas F. Lüscher +22 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated in rats and patients whether obesity-induced endothelial and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) dysfunction is rapidly improved after Rouselen-Y gastric bypass via a GLP-1-dependent mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Defining Global Benchmarks in Bariatric Surgery: A Retrospective Multicenter Analysis of Minimally Invasive Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy.
Daniel Gero,Dimitri A. Raptis,Dimitri A. Raptis,Wouter Vleeschouwers,Sophie L. van Veldhuisen,Andres San Martin,Yao Xiao,Yao Xiao,Manoela Galvao,Marcoandrea Giorgi,Marine Benois,Felipe Espinoza,Marianne Hollyman,Aaron Lloyd,Hanna Hosa,Henner Schmidt,José Luis Garcia-Galocha,Simon van de Vrande,Sonja Chiappetta,Emanuele Lo Menzo,Cristina Mamédio Aboud,Sandra Gagliardo Lüthy,Philippa Orchard,Steffi Rothe,Gerhard Prager,Dimitri J. Hazebroek,Bruno Dillemans,Roxane D Staiger,Milo A. Puhan,Ralph Peterli,Marco Bueter +46 more
TL;DR: Benchmark cutoffs targeting perioperative outcomes in BS offer a new tool in surgical quality-metrics and may be implemented in quality-improvement cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI
The physiology underlying Roux-en-Y gastric bypass: a status report
Thomas A. Lutz,Marco Bueter +1 more
TL;DR: This review will focus on two main clinical effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, namely body weight loss and change in eating behavior and animal experiments designed to understand the underlying physiological mechanisms of these post-gastric bypass effects will be discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in rats alters gut microbiota profile along the intestine.
TL;DR: It is shown that RYGB induced changes in the microbiota of the alimentary limb and the common channel resembling those seen after prebiotic treatment or weight loss by dieting, may be associated with altered production of intestinal hormones known to control energy balance.
