Journal ArticleDOI
Similarity of the effects of erythritol and xylitol on some risk factors of dental caries.
Kauko K. Mäkinen,Mare Saag,K.P. Isotupa,Jana Olak,Rita Nõmmela,Eva Söderling,Pirkko-Liisa Mäkinen +6 more
TL;DR: Erythritol and xylitol may exert similar effects on some risk factors of dental caries, although the biochemical mechanism of the effects may differ.
Journal ArticleDOI
Curriculum structure: principles and strategy
Richard Oliver,H. Kersten,Heli Vinkka-Puhakka,G. Alpasan,David R. Bearn,Ingrida Cema,E. DeLap,Paul M. H. Dummer,Jean-Paul Goulet,T. Gugushe,E. Jeniati,Vjekoslav Jerolimov,Nikolaos Kotsanos,S. TL;DR: This report provides general guidelines for the structure of a curriculum, followed by specific advice on the principles of learning and teaching, the process of restructuring and change leadership and management, and examples of several educational philosophies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Highly diverse microbiota in dental root canals in cases of apical periodontitis (data of illumina sequencing).
Veiko Vengerfeldt,Katerina Špilka,Mare Saag,Jens-Konrad Preem,Kristjan Oopkaup,Jaak Truu,Reet Mändar +6 more
TL;DR: This study provided an in-depth characterization of the microbiota of periapical tissues, revealing highly polymicrobial communities and minor differences between the study groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
MTHFR and MSX1 contribute to the risk of nonsyndromic cleft lip/palate
Triin Jagomägi,Tiit Nikopensius,Tiit Nikopensius,Kaarel Krjutškov,Kaarel Krjutškov,Veronika Tammekivi,Triin Viltrop,Mare Saag,Andres Metspalu,Andres Metspalu +9 more
TL;DR: The most significant associations with nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P) were found for SNPs in MSX1, MTH FR, and PVRL2, including several common haplotypes in the MTHFR and MSX 1 genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of erythritol and xylitol on dental caries prevention in children.
Sisko Honkala,Riina Runnel,Mare Saag,Jana Olak,Rita Nõmmela,Silvia Russak,Pirkko-Liisa Mäkinen,Tero Vahlberg,Gwen Falony,Kauko K. Mäkinen,Eino Honkala +10 more
TL;DR: Test the efficacy of long-term, daily intake of erythritol and xylitol candy, compared with sorbitol candy, on the development of enamel and dentin caries lesions in primary school children from southeastern Estonia found it to be significantly lower in the mixed dentition in the erystritol group than in thexylitol or control group.
