Epigenetic differences arise during the lifetime of monozygotic twins
Mario F. Fraga,Esteban Ballestar,Maria F. Paz,Santiago Ropero,Fernando Setien,Maria Luisa Ballestar,Damia Heine-Suñer,Juan C. Cigudosa,Miguel Urioste,Javier Benitez,Manuel Boix-Chornet,Abel Sánchez-Aguilera,Charlotte Ling,Emma Carlsson,Pernille Poulsen,Allan Vaag,Zarko Stephan,Tim D. Spector,Yue Zhong Wu,Christoph Plass,Manel Esteller +20 more
TL;DR: Older monozygous twins exhibited remarkable differences in their overall content and genomic distribution of 5-methylcytosine DNA and histone acetylation, affecting their gene-expression portrait, indicating how an appreciation of epigenetics is missing from the understanding of how different phenotypes can be originated from the same genotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inflammatory cytokines shape a changing DNA methylome in monocytes mirroring disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis.
Javier Rodríguez-Ubreva,Carlos de la Calle-Fabregat,Tianlu Li,Laura Ciudad,Maria Luisa Ballestar,Francesc Català-Moll,Octavio Morante-Palacios,Antonio Garcia-Gomez,Raquel Celis,Frances Humby,Alessandra Nerviani,Javier Martín,Costantino Pitzalis,Juan D. Cañete,Esteban Ballestar +14 more
TL;DR: A direct link between RA disease activity and the monocyte methylome is demonstrated through the action of inflammation-associated cytokines, which predicts inflammation-mediated disease activity for RA and other chronic immune-mediated inflammatory diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling offenses among motorcyclists involved in crashes in Spain
TL;DR: The results suggest that inexperienced, older females, not using helmets, absent-minded and non-fatigued riders are more likely to be offenders, and riding during the night, on weekends, for leisure purposes and along roads in perfect condition, mainly on curves, predict offenses among motorcyclists.

Modeling Offenses Among Motorcyclists Involved in Crashes in Spain
TL;DR: In this paper, a binary logit model is used to differentiate between offender and non-offender motorcyclists, based on the official accident database of the Spanish general directorate of traffic (DGT) for the 2003-2008 time period.
