Journal ArticleDOI
Junctional Adhesion Molecule, a Novel Member of the Immunoglobulin Superfamily That Distributes at Intercellular Junctions and Modulates Monocyte Transmigration
Ines Martin-Padura,Susan Lostaglio,Markus Schneemann,Lisa Williams,Maria Romano,Paolo Fruscella,Carla Panzeri,Antonella Stoppacciaro,Luigi Ruco,Antonello Villa,David Simmons,Elisabetta Dejana +11 more
TL;DR: JAM is a new component of endothelial and epithelial junctions that play a role in regulating monocyte transmigration and is identified as a novel immunoglobulin gene superfamily member that consists of two V-type Ig domains.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of IL-6 and Its Soluble Receptor in Induction of Chemokines and Leukocyte Recruitment
Maria Romano,Marina Sironi,Carlo Toniatti,Nadia Polentarutti,Paolo Fruscella,Pietro Ghezzi,Raffaella Faggioni,Walter Luini,Victor W.M. van Hinsbergh,Silvano Sozzani,Federico Bussolino,Valeria Poli,Gennaro Ciliberto,Alberto Mantovani,Alberto Mantovani +14 more
TL;DR: In vivo and in vitro evidence supports the concept that the IL-6 system plays an unexpected positive role in local inflammatory reactions by amplifying leukocyte recruitment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 synthesis by statins.
Maria Romano,Luisa Diomede,Marina Sironi,Lucia Massimiliano,Marcello Sottocorno,Nadia Polentarutti,Angelo Guglielmotti,Diego Albani,Alessandra Bruno,Paolo Fruscella,Mario Salmona,Annunciata Vecchi,Mario Pinza,Alberto Mantovani,Alberto Mantovani +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, Lovastatin and pravastatin were administered to mice according to a treatment schedule that significantly inhibited the hepatic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase activity without affecting total blood cholesterol.
Journal Article
A small synthetic molecule capable of preferentially inhibiting the production of the CC chemokine monocyte chemotactic protein-1.
Marina Sironi,Angelo Guglielmotti,Nadia Polentarutti,F. Fioretti,Claudio Milanese,Maria Romano,Claudio Vigini,Isabella Coletta,Silvano Sozzani,Sergio Bernasconi,Annunciata Vecchi,Mario Pinza,Alberto Mantovani +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that bindarit's beneficial effects in models of joint and kidney inflammation are related to its anti-MCP-1 action and it is possible to selectively and differentially regulate chemokines by targeting their production with small synthetic molecules.
Journal ArticleDOI
1,5-Benzodiazepine tricyclic derivatives exerting anti-inflammatory effects in mice by inhibiting interleukin-6 and prostaglandinE2production
Paolo Fruscella,Marcello Sottocorno,Mario Di Braccio,Luisa Diomede,Nicola Piccardi,Alfredo Cagnotto,Giancarlo Grossi,Maria Romano,Tiziana Mennini,Giorgio Roma +9 more
TL;DR: The effect of compounds A, B and C on leukocyte recruitment was paralleled by a significant inhibition of interleukin-6 and prostaglandin E(2)production in the exudate, similarly to indomethacin, and by a partial reduction of vascular permeability, which may be relevant for the design and development of innovative anti-inflammatory molecules among the 4H-triazolo-5-amine derivatives.
