According to W. Edwards Deming, American companies require nothing less than a transformation of management style and of governmental relations with industry. In Out of the Crisis, originally published in 1982, Deming offers a theory of management based on his famous 14 Points for Management. Management's failure to plan for the future, he claims, brings about loss of market, which brings about loss of jobs. Management must be judged not only by the quarterly dividend, but by innovative plans to stay in business, protect investment, ensure future dividends, and provide more jobs through improved product and service. In simple, direct language, he explains the principles of management transformation and how to apply them.

Teaching for quality learning at university

En el presente trabajo se realiza una revision de las altmetrics o indicadores alternativos. Este concepto se define como la creacion y estudio de nuevos indicadores, basados en la web 2.0, para el analisis de la actividad cientifica y academica. La idea que subyace es que, por ejemplo, las menciones en blogs, el numero de tuits o el de personas que guardan un articulo en su gestor de referencias puede ser una medida valida del uso y repercusion de las publicaciones cientificas. En este sentido, estas medidas se han situado en el centro del debate de los estudios bibliometricos cobrando especial relevancia. En el articulo se ilustran en primer lugar las plataformas e indicadores principales de este tipo de medidas, para posteriormente estudiar un conjunto de trabajos del ambito de la comunicacion, comparando el numero de citas recibidas con sus indicadores 2.0. Los resultados senalan que los articulos mas citados de la disciplina en los ultimos anos tambien presentan indicadores significativamente mas elevados de altmetrics. Seguidamente se realiza un repaso por los principales estudios empiricos realizados, deteniendonos en las correlaciones entre indicadores bibliometricos y alternativos. Se finaliza, a modo de reflexion, senalando las principales limitaciones y el papel que las altmetrics pueden desempenar a la hora de captar la repercusion de la investigacion en las plataformas de la web 2.0.

Altmetrics: nuevos indicadores para la comunicación científica en la Web 2.0

In this paper we review the socalled altmetrics or alternative metrics. This concept raises from the development of new indicators based on Web 2.0, for the evaluation of the research and academic activity. The basic assumption is that variables such as mentions in blogs, number of twits or of researchers bookmarking a research paper for instance, may be legitimate indicators for measuring the use and impact of scientific publications. In this sense, these indicators are currently the focus of the bibliometric community and are being discussed and debated. We describe the main platforms and indicators and we analyze as a sample the Spanish research output in Communication Studies. Comparing traditional indicators such as citations with these new indicators. The results show that the most cited papers are also the ones with a highest impact according to the altmetrics. We conclude pointing out the main shortcomings these metrics present and the role they may play when measuring the research impact through 2.0 platforms.

Altmetrics: New Indicators for Scientific Communication in Web 2.0

A study of the relationship between parental mediation and adolescents’ digital skills, online risks and online opportunities

En este articulo se propone un modelo de nuevas alfabetizaciones para la formacion de la ciudadania de la sociedad digital. Usando la metafora de Baumman se hace referencia a la oposicion entre la cultura «solida» predominante en los siglos XIX y XX con la cultura de la informacion «liquida» en la que la Web 2.0 tiene efectos muy relevantes sobre multiples planos de nuestra cultura actual. En un primer momento, se examinan las principales caracteristicas de la Web 2.0 definiendola en relacion a seis grandes dimensiones o planos que se entrecruzan y son simultaneos: la Web 2.0 como la biblioteca universal, como mercado global, como un puzzle gigante de hipertextos, como una plaza publica de comunicacion e interaccion social, como un territorio de expresion multimedia y audiovisual, y como multiples entornos virtuales interactivos. En una segunda parte, se propone un modelo teorico de la alfabetizacion del ciudadano ante esta cultura digital que consta de dos ejes o planos basicos: el primero referido a los ambitos o dimensiones de la alfabetizacion, y el segundo a las competencias de aprendizaje (instrumentales, cognitivo-intelectuales, sociocomunicacionales, emocionales y axiologicas) a desarrollar en los sujetos. Por ultimo, se defiende que las nuevas alfabetizaciones son un derecho de los individuos y una condicion necesaria para un desarrollo social y democratico de la sociedad en el siglo XXI.

De lo sólido a lo líquido: Las nuevas alfabetizaciones ante los cambios culturales de la Web 2.0

This paper presents a part of the extensive study of the project Cyberbullying – A Diagnosis of the Situation in Portugal, which applied a questionnaire to 3,525 teenagers in the 6th, 8th and 11th schooling levels. In order to characterize cyberbullying, we have sought to contribute to the identification and interpretation of emotions experienced by the youngsters involved as victims or offenders in cyberbullying situations. The data reveal that sadness, desire for revenge, and fear are the most frequent emotions of the victims, while satisfaction, indifference and relief are those that the offenders experience the most. Data also reveal significant differences between the emotions experienced by victims and those that offenders attributed to them, which can be an indicator of the lack of empathy of the latter and thus requires the development of an emotional education of youngsters. Some significant differences have been found concerning schooling level, sex, school, and municipality, namely: a higher incidence of emotions such as sadness, fear, insecurity, and the desire for revenge among male victims; more feelings of insecurity, relief, confusion, and disorientation among young female offenders; emotions associated with impotence and lack of support experienced by youngsters in the role of victims, more in some schools than in others. These data lead us to reflect on how to take action to prevent cyberbullying.

Emoções no cyberbullying : um estudo com adolescentes portugueses

RESUMO: Este artigo apresenta parte do estudo do projeto Cyberbullying - um diagnostico da situacao em Portugal *, no qual foi aplicado um questionario a 3.525 adolescentes do 6o, 8o e 11o niveis de escolaridade para compreender a incidencia do fenomeno e analisar os processos associados, nomeadamente os motivos percecionados, objeto especifico deste trabalho. Os motivos mais invocados pelos que desempenham o papel de agressor sao hedonistas relacionados com brincadeira, diversao e fuga ao tedio, bem como motivos de afiliacao e reativos. Os que se identificam como vitimas, por sua vez, atribuem aos seus agressores motivos de afiliacao, hedonistas e de poder, com enfase particular, por ordem decrescente, para a inveja, a diversao, a imaturidade, o ciume, a falta de respeito, a ausencia de afeto e os sentimentos de superioridade.

Cyberbullying: motivos da agressão na perspetiva de jovens portugueses

This paper aims to analyse different theoretical contributions related to learning processes and establish the links between these concepts and teaching practice in higher education. This discussion becomes relevant in the context of the current reorganisation of universities and their practices, the contradictions in which demonstrate the epistemological dimension of this level of education. It questions not only what you learn, but also why and, especially, how we learn, in a perspective in which learning and teaching are inseparably related. Thus, the paper discusses the contributions of interactionist approaches such as the psychogenetics of Jean Piaget, the historical-cultural approach of L. S. Vygotsky and the cognitive flexibility of Spiro. Based on these theories we discuss various teaching strategies, including the cases method and autobiographical narratives, as offering the potential for shared construction of meanings in contexts of interaction, mediation and complexity, in which students and teachers are able to participate in an emancipating process.

O modelo 4As: Apresentacao, Abertura, Aprofundamento e Apropriacao, procura ajudar o professor a desenhar atividades online centradas no estudante ao mesmo tempo que procura ajudar a refletir sobre a componente presencial e sobre as diversas tipologias de aprendizagem. Procuramos ainda refletir sobre o papel da formacao pedagogica de professores, nomeadamente a importância que modelos como o TPACK tem para ajudar a perceber as sinergias, em cenarios de formacao, existentes entre a tecnologia, a pedagogia, o contexto e o conteudo. O artigo termina com uma reflexao sobre a formacao pedagogica de professores.
