Journal ArticleDOI

Medicinal properties of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana).

TL;DR: Findings of beneficial properties of GML's extracts and xanthones isolated from this plant so far are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI

ROS scavenging capacity and neuroprotective effect of α-mangostin against 3-nitropropionic acid in cerebellar granule neurons

TL;DR: It is concluded that alpha-mangostin is able to scavenge directly several ROS and has a neuroprotective effect against 3-NP in primary cultures of CGNs, which is associated with its ability to ameliorate 3- NP-induced ROS production.
Journal ArticleDOI

RETRACTED: Curcumin restores Nrf2 levels and prevents quinolinic acid-induced neurotoxicity.

TL;DR: Results of this study support the concept that neuroprotection induced by curcumin is associated with its ability to activate the Nrf2 cytoprotective pathway and to increase the total superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reactive oxygen species scavenging capacity of different cooked garlic preparations

TL;DR: The heating before or after garlic cutting was unable to eliminate the capacity of the extracts to scavenge H(2)O(2), O(2)(*-), and OH(*).
Journal ArticleDOI

Nordihydroguaiaretic acid activates the antioxidant pathway Nrf2/HO-1 and protects cerebellar granule neurons against oxidative stress.

TL;DR: Nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA), a powerful antioxidant from Larrea tridentate, activates the antioxidant pathway Nrf2/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in cerebellar granule neurons and protects them against H( 2)O(2) or 3-nitropropionic acid-induced neurotoxicity.
