Journal ArticleDOI
The role of PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway in the modulation of autophagy and the clearance of protein aggregates in neurodegeneration.
David Heras-Sandoval,Jazmin M. Pérez-Rojas,Jacqueline Hernández-Damián,José Pedraza-Chaverri +3 more
TL;DR: The interplay between the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and the autophagic process is complex and a more detailed examination of tissue from patients suffering neurodegenerative diseases and of animal and cellular models is needed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Medicinal properties of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana).
TL;DR: Findings of beneficial properties of GML's extracts and xanthones isolated from this plant so far are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mineralocorticoid receptor blockade confers renoprotection in preexisting chronic cyclosporine nephrotoxicity.
Jazmin M. Pérez-Rojas,Jorge A. Blanco,Cristino Cruz,Joyce Trujillo,Vishal S. Vaidya,Norma Uribe,Joseph V. Bonventre,Gerardo Gamba,Norma A. Bobadilla +8 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that Sp may reduce CsA-induced established nephrotoxicity in patients, and renoprotective effects were associated with reduction of TGF-beta, procaspase-3, and Kim-1 mRNA levels as well asKim-1 shedding into the urine.
Journal ArticleDOI
Renoprotection by α-mangostin is related to the attenuation in renal oxidative/nitrosative stress induced by cisplatin nephrotoxicity
Jazmin M. Pérez-Rojas,Cristino Cruz,Patricia García-López,Dolores Javier Sánchez-González,Claudia María Martínez-Martínez,Gisela Ceballos,Magali Espinosa,Jorge Melendez-Zajgla,José Pedraza-Chaverri +8 more
TL;DR: The renoprotective effect of α-M on CDDP-induced nephrotoxicity was associated with the attenuation in oxidative/nitrosative stress and inflammatory and fibrotic markers and preservation of catalase activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phytochemical Constituents, Antioxidant, Cytotoxic, and Antimicrobial Activities of the Ethanolic Extract of Mexican Brown Propolis.
J. Fausto Rivero-Cruz,Jessica Granados-Pineda,José Pedraza-Chaverri,Jazmin M. Pérez-Rojas,Ajit Kumar-Passari,Gloria Díaz-Ruiz,Blanca Rivero-Cruz +6 more
TL;DR: The antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) sample collected in México and the isolated compounds is described, which showed an anti-proliferative effect on glioma cells better than temozolomide, also decreased proliferation and viability in cervical cancer cells, but its effectiveness was lower compared to cisplatin.
