Journal ArticleDOI
Isolation of amyloid p component (protein ap) from normal serum as a calcium-dependent binding protein
M.B Pepys,A. C. Dash,E. A. Munn,A Feinstein,Martha Skinner,A. S. Cohen,Henry Gewurz,A.P Osmand,R.H Painter +8 more
TL;DR: The P component of amyloid (protein AP, pentagonal unit) has been isolated from normal serum by using its hitherto undescribed calcium-dependent affinity for agarose to bind to certain polyanions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of the amyloid fibril as a cross-beta protein.
TL;DR: Whether this molecular structure was consistently present in all preparations, including those freed from the pentagonal unit, was determined to be consistently present.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term outcome of patients with AL amyloidosis treated with high-dose melphalan and stem-cell transplantation
Vaishali Sanchorawala,Martha Skinner,Karen Quillen,Kathleen T. Finn,Gheorghe Doros,David C. Seldin +5 more
TL;DR: Hematologic treatment with HDM/SCT leads to durable remissions and prolonged survival, particularly for those patients who achieve a hematologic response (CR).
Journal ArticleDOI
Amyloidosis of the gastrointestinal tract: a 13-year, single-center, referral experience.
Andrew J. Cowan,Martha Skinner,David C. Seldin,David C. Seldin,John L. Berk,David R. Lichtenstein,Carl O'Hara,Gheorghe Doros,Vaishali Sanchorawala,Vaishali Sanchorawala +9 more
TL;DR: Most patients with systemic disease had immunoglobulin light-chain, and their tolerance of therapy and median survival were excellent, and staining for amyloid should be considered in patients undergoing gastrointestinal biopsy who have unexplained chronic gastrointestinal symptoms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic and Prognostic Utility of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Light-Chain Cardiac Amyloidosis
Frederick L. Ruberg,Evan Appelbaum,Ravin Davidoff,Al Ozonoff,Kraig V. Kissinger,Caitlin J. Harrigan,Martha Skinner,Warren J. Manning +7 more
TL;DR: In patients with systemic amyloidosis, LGE is highly sensitive and specific for the identification of cardiac involvement but does not predict survival and is strongly correlated with heart failure severity as assessed by BNP.
