Spinal Glia and Proinflammatory Cytokines Mediate Mirror-Image Neuropathic Pain in Rats

TL;DR: The present studies demonstrate that both ipsilateral and mirror-image SIN-induced allodynias are reversed by intrathecal (peri-spinal) delivery of fluorocitrate, a glial metabolic inhibitor, and provide the first evidence that ipsilaterally and Mirror-image inflammatory neuropathy pain are created both acutely and chronically through glial and proinflammatory cytokine actions.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new model of sciatic inflammatory neuritis (SIN): induction of unilateral and bilateral mechanical allodynia following acute unilateral peri-sciatic immune activation in rats

TL;DR: It is revealed that zymosan acutely injected around the sciatic nerve of awake unrestrained rats rapidly produces low threshold mechanical allodynia in the absence of thermal hyperalgesia, and several lines of evidence are provided that the appearance of this contralateral (‘mirror’) allodynian reflects local actions of zymOSan on the sciata rather than spread of this immune activator to the general circulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inflammatory effects of snake venom myotoxic phospholipases A2.

TL;DR: This work reviews the proinflammatory and nociceptive effects evoked by myotoxic PLA2s and their mechanisms of action and concludes that these proteins promote inflammation and pain by mechanisms not related to phospholipid hydrolysis nor to mobilization of arachidonic acid.
