Prophylactic quadrivalent human papillomavirus (types 6, 11, 16, and 18) L1 virus-like particle vaccine in young women: a randomised double-blind placebo-controlled multicentre phase II efficacy trial
Luisa L. Villa,Ronaldo L.R. Costa,Carlos Alberto Petta,Rosires Pereira de Andrade,Kevin A. Ault,Anna R. Giuliano,Cosette M. Wheeler,Laura A. Koutsky,Christian Malm,Matti Lehtinen,Finn Egil Skjeldestad,Sven Eric Olsson,Margareta Steinwall,Darron R. Brown,Robert J. Kurman,Brigitte M. Ronnett,Mark H. Stoler,Alex Ferenczy,Diane M. TL;DR: In this paper, a double-blind placebo-controlled phase II study was done to assess the efficacy of a prophylactic quadrivalent vaccine targeting the human papillomavirus (HPV) types associated with 70% of cervical cancers (types 16 and 18) and with 90% of genital warts (types 6 and 11).
Journal ArticleDOI
Seropositivities to human papillomavirus types 16, 18, or 33 capsids and to Chlamydia trachomatis are markers of sexual behavior
Joakim Dillner,Ingegerd Kallings,Christina Brihmer,Bo Sikström,Pentti Koskela,Matti Lehtinen,John T. Schiller,Martin Sapp,P A Mårdh +8 more
TL;DR: HPV serology appears to be suitable as a marker of sexual behavior in populations and serologic confirmation that the important mode of transmission of HPV-16, -18, or -33 infection in women is sexual is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human papillomavirus infection as a risk factor for anal and perianal skin cancer in a prospective study.
Tone Bjørge,Anders Engeland,Tapio Luostarinen,Jon Mork,Randi Elin Gislefoss,Egil Jellum,Pentti Koskela,Matti Lehtinen,Eero Pukkala,Steinar Thoresen,Joakim Dillner +10 more
TL;DR: Prospective epidemiological evidence of an association between infection with HPV 16 and 18 and anal and perianal skin cancer is provided and the highest risks were seen for HPV 16 seropositive patients above the age of 45 years at serum sampling and for patients with a lag time of less than 10 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strategies for the introduction of human papillomavirus vaccination: modelling the optimum age- and sex-specific pattern of vaccination in Finland
Katherine French,Ruanne V. Barnabas,Ruanne V. Barnabas,Matti Lehtinen,O Kontula,Eero Pukkala,Joakim Dillner,Geoffrey P. Garnett +7 more
TL;DR: Implementing catch-up vaccination at the start of a vaccination programme would increase the speed with which a decrease in HPV and cervical cancer incidence is observed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chlamydia trachomatis infection and risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia
Matti Lehtinen,Kevin A. Ault,Erika Lyytikainen,Joakim Dillner,Joakim Dillner,Suzanne M. Garland,Daron G. Ferris,Laura A. Koutsky,Heather L. Sings,Shuang Lu,Richard M. Haupt,Jorma Paavonen +11 more
TL;DR: Its role as a potential co-factor in the development of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) grade 2 or higher was examined and the excess risk disappeared when the outcome was expanded to include CIN grade 3 or worse.
