Acebutolol and nifedipine in the treatment of arterial hypertension: efficacy and acceptability.

TL;DR: A long-term treatment, including a double-blind comparison of three separate periods of 4 weeks of treatment with NI, AC and with the combination of the same doses, showed a significant reduction of systolic and diastolic blood pressure for each treatment, not significantly different at rest for the three single drugs but greater for the combined treatment, assuring also a better control of syStolic BP during exercise.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of the main determinants of abdominal aorta size: a screening by Pocket Size Imaging Device

TL;DR: PSID is a reliable tool for the screening of determinants of AA size, which is greater in men and strongly influenced by aging and overweight and CAD may be also associated to increased AA diameter.
Journal Article

Reduction of left ventricular mass by short-term antihypertensive treatment with isradipine: a double-blind comparison with enalapril.

TL;DR: It is indicated that isradipine treatment improves LV systolic function and causes a significant reduction in LV mass early in the course of antihypertensive treatment and is effective in both patients with and without LV hypertrophy.
Journal Article

[Echocardiographic evaluation of the athlete's heart: from morphological adaptations to myocardial function].

TL;DR: The morphology of the athlete's heart is intermediate between concentric and eccentric left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), in relation to the large prevalence of mixed sports activities and training protocols (including both aerobic and anaerobic exercise).
Journal ArticleDOI

The role of echocardiography in the management of the sources of embolism

TL;DR: The echocardiographic assessment helps not only for the retrospective diagnosis of sources of embolism but also for the prevention of events in asymptomatic patients and can also distinguish normal variants and artifacts from cardiac masses and tumors.
