BOUT++: a framework for parallel plasma fluid simulations
TL;DR: In this paper, a modular code called BOUT++ is presented, which simulates 3D fluid equations in curvilinear coordinates, and is able to simulate a wide range of fluid models (magnetized and unmagnetised) involving an arbitrary number of scalar and vector fields.
Journal Article
BOUT++: A framework for parallel plasma fluid simulations
TL;DR: This is the first time dissipationless, initial-value simulations of ELMs have been successfully demonstrated, and the resulting mode-structures and growth-rate are found to be in good agreement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stability and dynamics of the edge pedestal in the low collisionality regime: physics mechanisms for steady-state ELM-free operation
P. B. Snyder,Keith H. Burrell,H. R. Wilson,Ming-Sheng Chu,M.E. Fenstermacher,Anthony Leonard,R.A. Moyer,T.H. Osborne,Maxim Umansky,W.P. West,Xueqiao Xu +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a peeling-ballooning model has been proposed to explain the physics of the edge pedestal and edge localized modes (ELMs) in the standard H-mode regime.
Journal ArticleDOI
Volume recombination and opacity in Alcator C-Mod divertor plasmas
J. L. Terry,Bruce Lipschultz,A. Yu. Pigarov,Sergei Krasheninnikov,Brian LaBombard,D. Lumma,H. Ohkawa,D. A. Pappas,Maxim Umansky +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the D0 Balmer spectrum and used a collisional radiative model describing the level populations, ionization, and recombination of D0.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wukitch,Jinxiang Zhu +44 more
TL;DR: The SPARC tokamak is a critical next step towards commercial fusion energy as discussed by the authors, and it is designed as a high-field high-energy particle accelerator relevant to fusion power plants.
