Journal ArticleDOI
Resolvins suppress tumor growth and enhance cancer therapy.
Megan L. Sulciner,Charles N. Serhan,Molly M. Gilligan,Dayna Mudge,Jaimie Chang,Allison Gartung,Kristen Lehner,Diane R. Bielenberg,Birgitta Schmidt,Jesmond Dalli,Emily R. Greene,Yael Gus-Brautbar,Julia Piwowarski,Tadanori Mammoto,David Zurakowski,Mauro Perretti,Vikas P. Sukhatme,Arja Kaipainen,Mark W. Kieran,Sui Huang,Dipak Panigrahy +20 more
TL;DR: It is shown that tumor cells killed by chemotherapy or targeted therapy stimulate primary tumor growth when coinjected with a subthreshold (nontumorigenic) inoculum of tumor cells by triggering macrophage proinflammatory cytokine release after phosphatidylserine exposure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aspirin-triggered proresolving mediators stimulate resolution in cancer
Molly M. Gilligan,Allison Gartung,Megan L. Sulciner,Paul C. Norris,Vikas P. Sukhatme,Diane R. Bielenberg,Sui Huang,Mark W. Kieran,Charles N. Serhan,Dipak Panigrahy +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that aspirin-triggered resolvins achieve the antitumor and chemopreventive activity of aspirin without toxicity, identifying a mechanism for aspirin’s anticancer activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preoperative stimulation of resolution and inflammation blockade eradicates micrometastases
Dipak Panigrahy,Allison Gartung,Jun Yang,Haixia Yang,Molly M. Gilligan,Megan L. Sulciner,Swati S. Bhasin,Diane R. Bielenberg,Jaimie Chang,Birgitta Schmidt,Julia Piwowarski,Anna Fishbein,Dulce Soler-Ferran,Matthew A. Sparks,Steven J. Staffa,Vidula Sukhatme,Bruce D. Hammock,Mark W. Kieran,Mark W. Kieran,Sui Huang,Manoj Bhasin,Charles N. Serhan,Vikas P. Sukhatme,Vikas P. Sukhatme +23 more
TL;DR: Preoperative administration of the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug ketorolac and/or resolvins, a family of specialized proresolving autacoid mediators, eliminated micrometastases in multiple tumor-resection models, resulting in long-term survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeting lipid mediators in cancer biology.
TL;DR: The emergence of a novel super-family of lipid mediator termed specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) has revealed a new role for bioactive lipid mediators in the resolution of inflammation in cancer biology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elevated Numbers of CD163+ Macrophages in Hearts of Simian Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Monkeys Correlate with Cardiac Pathology and Fibrosis
Joshua Walker,Megan L. Sulciner,Katherine D. Nowicki,Andrew D. Miller,Tricia H. Burdo,Kenneth C. Williams +5 more
TL;DR: Data implicate monocyte/macrophage activation and accumulation in the development of cardiac pathology with SIV infection and positively correlated with macrophage numbers in ventricular tissue in SIV-infected animals.
