Journal ArticleDOI
Association between premature mortality and hypopituitarism
Jeremy W. Tomlinson,N. Holden,Robert Kerrin Hills,Keith Wheatley,Richard N. Clayton,A. S. Bates,Michael C. Sheppard,Paul M. Stewart +7 more
TL;DR: Age at diagnosis, female sex, and above all, craniopharyngioma were significant independent risk factors and specific endocrine-axis deficiency, with the exception of untreated gonadotropin deficiency, does not seem to have a role.
Journal ArticleDOI
Treatment of acromegaly with the growth hormone-receptor antagonist pegvisomant.
Peter J Trainer,W. M. Drake,Laurence Katznelson,Pamela U. Freda,Herman-Bonert,van der Lely Aj,Eleni V. Dimaraki,Paul M. Stewart,K. E. Friend,Mary Lee Vance,G. M. Besser,John A. Scarlett,Michael O. Thorner,Craig Parkinson,Anne Klibanski,Powell Js,Ariel L. Barkan,Michael C. Sheppard,Malsonado M,Rose Dr,David R. Clemmons,Gudmundur Johannsson,B.-Å. Bengtsson,Stavros Stavrou,David L. Kleinberg,David M. Cook,Lawrence S. Phillips,Martin Bidlingmaier,Christian J. Strasburger,Hackett S,Kenneth A. Zib,Bennett Wf,Robert J. Davis +32 more
TL;DR: Treatment of patients who have acromegaly with pegvisomant with a growth hormone–receptor antagonist results in a reduction in serum IGF-I concentrations and in clinical improvement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prediction of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in elderly people from one low serum thyrotropin result: a 10-year cohort study
TL;DR: A single measurement of low serum thyrotropin in individuals aged 60 years or older is associated with increased mortality from all causes, and in particular mortality due to circulatory and cardiovascular diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and follow-up of abnormal thyrotrophin (TSH) concentrations in the elderly in the United Kingdom
TL;DR: Assessment of the thyroid status of 1210 patients aged over 60 registered with a single general practice by measurement of serum TSH using a sensitive assay finds the risk of thyrotoxicosis in those with TSH values below normal appears small.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum Thyrotropin Concentration as a Novel Predictor of Malignancy in Thyroid Nodules Investigated by Fine-Needle Aspiration
Kristien Boelaert,Horacek J,Roger Holder,John Watkinson,Michael C. Sheppard,Jayne A. Franklyn +5 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that these simple clinical and biochemical factors can serve as an adjunct to FNAB in predicting risk of malignancy in individual patients, taking into account their gender, age, goiter type determined clinically, and serum TSH, was calculated.
