Journal ArticleDOI

Combined photodynamic therapy with systemic chemotherapy for unresectable cholangiocarcinoma.

TL;DR: Chemotherapy with gemcitabine and cisplatin is the current standard for patients with unresectable cholangiocarcinoma and local photodynamic therapy has also demonstrated benefit in patients with extrahepatic cholangsiocARCinoma.
Journal ArticleDOI

Acute decompensation boosts hepatic collagen type III deposition and deteriorates experimental and human cirrhosis.

TL;DR: It is shown for the first time that AD boosts collagen type III deposition in experimental and human Cirrhosis, possibly contributing to the worsened outcome in patients with decompensated cirrhosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of portal venous platelet activation in patients with decompensated cirrhosis and TIPS

TL;DR: TIPS placement is feasible for prevention of variceal rebleeding in the majority of cirrhotic patients with portal vein thrombosis and that it is more effective than endoscopic band ligation plus propranolol, but the prothrombotic milieu (platelet and plasmatic coagulation) has not been investigated to date.
Journal ArticleDOI

Controlled underdilation using novel VIATORR® controlled expansion stents improves survival after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt implantation

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that VCX stent grafts underdilated to 8 mm do not passively expand to nominal diameter and suggests reduced hospital readmissions because of hepatic encephalopathy, uncontrolled ascites, and heart failure, and improved 1-year survival compared with underdilation VTS.
