Journal ArticleDOI

Human brown adipose tissue: Underestimated target in metabolic disease?

TL;DR: The aim of this review is to give an overview of the differences between classical brown adipocytes and inducible beige adipocytes in humans, and the potential activators of BAT in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metabolic responses to mild cold acclimation in type 2 diabetes patients.

TL;DR: In this paper, mild cold acclimation for 10 days has been shown to not improve insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes, but only results in mild effects on overnight fasted fat oxidation, post-prandial energy expenditure and aortic augmentation index.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nicotinamide Riboside Enhances In Vitro Beta-adrenergic Brown Adipose Tissue Activity in Humans

TL;DR: NR stimulates in vitro human BAT, however not in vivo BAT in humans, and decreases adipocyte cell size in BAT, which demonstrates the need for further translational research to better understand the differences in NAD + metabolism in mouse and human.
Journal ArticleDOI

Absence of 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake using Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography in Madelung's disease: A case report.

TL;DR: It is concluded that cold‐stimulated BAT activity was not detected in lipomas associated with Madelung's disease, and adipose tissue biopsies derived from the lipomas did not express UCP1.
