Journal ArticleDOI

A new arenavirus in a cluster of fatal transplant-associated diseases.

TL;DR: The use of high-throughput sequencing during an outbreak of disease facilitated the identification of a new arenavirus transmitted through solid-organ transplantation, related to lymphocytic choriomeningitis viruses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tracking the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia using genomics.

TL;DR: High-throughput genomics for SARS-CoV-2 is reported, sequencing 80% of cases in Victoria, Australia between 6 January and 14 April 2020 to identify clusters and impact of interventions, including large clusters associated with social venues, healthcare and cruise ships.
Journal ArticleDOI

Induction of Apoptosis by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 7a Protein Is Dependent on Its Interaction with the Bcl-XL Protein

TL;DR: It is shown that the overexpression of Bcl-XL, a prosurvival member of the B cl-2 family, blocks 7a-induced apoptosis, suggesting that the mechanism for apoptosis induction by 7a is at the level of or upstream from the Bcl -2 family.
Journal ArticleDOI

SARS–associated Coronavirus Replication in Cell Lines

TL;DR: Virus can replicate in several common cell lines, sometimes without cytopathic effect, and in some cases without any effect at all.
Journal ArticleDOI

Laboratory diagnosis and surveillance of human respiratory viruses by PCR in Victoria, Australia, 2002-2003.

TL;DR: Evidence for the human metapneumovirus (hMPV) was only sought in the second year of the study and revealed low‐level circulation of this virus, mainly in the cooler months among the very young and adult populations.
