Myocardial localization of coronavirus in COVID-19 cardiogenic shock.
Guido Tavazzi,Carlo Pellegrini,M. Maurelli,Mirko Belliato,Fabio Sciutti,Andrea Bottazzi,Paola Alessandra Sepe,Tullia Resasco,Rita Camporotondo,Raffaele Bruno,Fausto Baldanti,Stefania Paolucci,S Pelenghi,Giorgio Antonio Iotti,Francesco Mojoli,Eloisa Arbustini +15 more
TL;DR: This is the first case of acute cardiac injury directly linked to myocardial localization of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) in a 69‐year‐old patient with flu‐like symptoms rapidly degenerating into respiratory distress, hypotension, and cardiogenic shock.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early nutritional supplementation in non-critically ill patients hospitalized for the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Rationale and feasibility of a shared pragmatic protocol.
Riccardo Caccialanza,Alessandro Laviano,Federica Lobascio,Elisabetta Montagna,Raffaele Bruno,Serena Ludovisi,Angelo Corsico,Antonio Di Sabatino,Mirko Belliato,Monica Calvi,I Iacona,Giuseppina Grugnetti,Elisa Bonadeo,Alba Muzzi,Emanuele Cereda +14 more
TL;DR: A pragmatic protocol for early nutritional supplementation of non-critically ill patients hospitalized for COVID-19 disease is presented, based on the observation that most patients present at admission with severe inflammation and anorexia leading to a drastic reduction of food intake and that a substantial percentage develops respiratory failure requiring non-invasive ventilation or even continuous positive airway pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antibiotic use in patients with COVID-19: a 'snapshot' Infectious Diseases International Research Initiative (ID-IRI) survey.
Bojana Beović,May Doušak,João Ferreira-Coimbra,Kristina Nadrah,Francesca Rubulotta,Mirko Belliato,Joana Berger-Estilita,Folusakin Ayoade,Jordi Rello,Hakan Erdem +9 more
TL;DR: Widespread broad-spectrum antibiotic use in patients with COVID-19 is revealed and implementation of antimicrobial stewardship principles is warranted to mitigate the negative consequences of antibiotic therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical phenotypes of SARS-CoV-2: implications for clinicians and researchers.
TL;DR: Patients with COVID-19 present a broad spectrum of clinical presentation, whereas hypoxaemia is the marker of severity, different strategies of management should be customised to five specific individual phenotypes, which would benefit the optimisation of therapies and improve outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
