Journal ArticleDOI
Natural isothiocyanates: Genotoxic potential versus chemoprevention
TL;DR: Whether such concentrations may exert a potential health risk cannot be excluded with certainty and an accurate evaluation of the toxicological profile of isothiocyanates should be prompted before any major increase in their consumption be recommended or their clinical use suggested.
Book ChapterDOI
Sulforaphane as a promising molecule for fighting cancer.
TL;DR: Sulforaphane (SFN) is an isothiocyanate found in cruciferous vegetables and has been shown to be an effective chemoprotective agent in cell culture, in carcinogen-induced and genetic animal cancer models, as well as in xenograft models of cancer as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondrial pathway mediates the antileukemic effects of Hemidesmus indicus, a promising botanical drug.
Carmela Fimognari,Monia Lenzi,Lorenzo Ferruzzi,Eleonora Turrini,Paolo Scartezzini,Ferruccio Poli,Roberto Gotti,Alessandra Guerrini,Giovanni Carulli,Virginia Ottaviano,Giorgio Cantelli-Forti,Patrizia Hrelia +11 more
TL;DR: The results indicate the molecular basis of the antileukemic effects of Hemidesmus and identify the mitochondrial pathways and [Ca2+]i as crucial actors in its anticancer activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Meripilus giganteus ethanolic extract exhibits pro-apoptotic and anti-proliferative effects in leukemic cell lines.
Monia Lenzi,Veronica Cocchi,Aleksandra Novaković,Maja Karaman,Marijana Sakač,Anamarija Mandić,Milica Pojić,Maria Cristina Barbalace,Cristina Angeloni,Patrizia Hrelia,Marco Malaguti,Silvana Hrelia +11 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that MG extract might be considered a promising and partially selective chemopreventive agent since it is able to modulate different mechanisms in transformed cells at concentrations lower than in non-transformed ones.
Journal ArticleDOI
6-(Methylsulfonyl) hexyl isothiocyanate as potential chemopreventive agent: molecular and cellular profile in leukaemia cell lines.
Monia Lenzi,Veronica Cocchi,Marco Malaguti,Maria Cristina Barbalace,Silvia Marchionni,Silvana Hrelia,Patrizia Hrelia +6 more
TL;DR: It was observed that 6-MITC is able to limit tumour growth by slowing down and blocking the cell cycle of Jurkat and HL-60 cells respectively, in a dose- and time-related manner, while exerting no activity of any kind on the replication of healthy cells.
