Genome-wide association studies may be misinterpreted: genes versus heritability
Paolo Vineis,Neil Pearce +1 more
TL;DR: Variation is not causation and heritability is not genetic determination, therefore, heritability studies do not provide valid estimates of the proportion of disease cases that are attributable to genetic factors, and such estimates cannot be used to estimate the proportion that are due to environmental factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Asthma and the beta agonist debate.
TL;DR: It is concluded that the strong association between the use of inhaled /3 agonists and asthma mortality is confined primarily to the useof these drugs in excess of recommended limits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Duration of protection of CoronaVac plus heterologous BNT162b2 booster in the Omicron period in Brazil
Thiago Cerqueira-Silva,Enny S. Paixão,Juracy Bertoldo dos Santos Junior,Gerson Oliveira Penna,Guilherme Loureiro Werneck,Neil Pearce,Mauricio Lima Barreto,Viviane Boaventura,Manoel Barral-Netto +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors evaluated the effectiveness of inactivated whole-virus COVID-19 vaccines plus heterologous booster against symptomatic infection and severe outcomes (hospitalization or death) during the dominance of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant period.
Journal ArticleDOI
ATP-Citrate lyase as a target for hypolipidemic intervention. 2. Synthesis and evaluation of (3R,5S)-omega-substituted-3-carboxy-3, 5-dihydroxyalkanoic acids and their gamma-lactone prodrugs as inhibitors of the enzyme in vitro and in vivo
Andy Gribble,Robert J. Ife,Antony Nicholas Shaw,David McNair,C. E. Novelli,S Bakewell,Virendra P. Shah,R. E. Dolle,Pieter H.E. Groot,Neil Pearce,John W. Yates,David G. Tew,H Boyd,S Ashman,Drake S. Eggleston,R C Haltiwanger,G Okafo +16 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided to support the hypothesis that compounds which inhibit ATP-citrate lyase have the potential to be a novel class of hypolipidemic agent, which possess combined hypocholesterolemic and hypotriglyceridemic activities.
Journal Article
Mortality and social class in New Zealand. III: male mortality by ethnic group.
TL;DR: There were substantial social class differences and ethnic differences in mortality in New Zealand and these were largely independent so that only about one-fifth of the Maori mortality excess was attributable to social class factors.
