Journal ArticleDOI
Airway Epithelial Cell Immunity Is Delayed During Rhinovirus Infection in Asthma and COPD.
Punnam Chander Veerati,Niamh M. Troy,Andrew T. Reid,Ngan Fung Li,Kristy Nichol,Parwinder Kaur,Steven Maltby,Peter A. B. Wark,Peter A. B. Wark,Darryl A. Knight,Anthony Bosco,Christopher Grainge,Christopher Grainge,Nathan W. Bartlett +13 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that propensity for viral exacerbations of asthma and COPD relate to delayed (rather than deficient) expression of epithelial cell innate anti-viral immune genes which in turns leads to a delayed and ultimately more inflammatory host immune response.
Book ChapterDOI
Ground zero—the airway epithelium
Andrew T. Reid,Erika N. Sutanto,Punnam Chander-Veerati,Kevin Looi,Ngan Fung Li,Thomas Iosifidis,Su-Ling Loo,Luke W. Garratt,Anthony Kicic,AusREC,AusREC,AusREC +11 more
TL;DR: The structure of the airway is discussed, highlighting the now broad number of cell types that comprise it, and its primary roles, including its mucociliary, barrier, and reparative functions in these settings are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Update in Club Cell Biology and Its Potential Relevance to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
TL;DR: In this article , the authors integrate findings from single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) experiments with earlier in vitro, in vivo, and microscopy studies and highlight the many ways club cells contribute to airway homeostasis.
