Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Bronchoconstriction on Airway Remodeling in Asthma
Christopher Grainge,Laurie C.K. Lau,Jonathon A Ward,Valdeep Dulay,Gemma Lahiff,Susan J. Wilson,Stephen T. Holgate,Donna E. Davies,Peter H. Howarth +8 more
TL;DR: Bronchoconstriction without additional inflammation induces airway remodeling in patients with asthma, and these findings have potential implications for management.
Journal ArticleDOI
Potentially Pathogenic Airway Bacteria and Neutrophilic Inflammation in Treatment Resistant Severe Asthma
Benjamin J. Green,Surasa Wiriyachaiporn,Christopher Grainge,Geraint B. Rogers,Valia Kehagia,Laurie Lau,Mary P. Carroll,Kenneth D. Bruce,Peter H. Howarth +8 more
TL;DR: Airway colonisation with potentially pathogenic micro-organisms in asthma is associated with more severe airways obstruction and neutrophilic airway inflammation, and altered colonisation may have a role in the development of an asthma phenotype that responds less well to current asthma therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic accuracy of transbronchial lung cryobiopsy for interstitial lung disease diagnosis (COLDICE): a prospective, comparative study.
Lauren K. Troy,Lauren K. Troy,Christopher Grainge,Tamera J. Corte,Tamera J. Corte,Jonathan P. Williamson,Jonathan P. Williamson,Michael P. Vallely,Michael P. Vallely,Wendy A Cooper,Wendy A Cooper,Annabelle Mahar,Jeffrey L. Myers,Simon Lai,Ellie Mulyadi,Paul J. Torzillo,Paul J. Torzillo,Martin J. Phillips,Martin J. Phillips,Helen E. Jo,Helen E. Glenn,Michael Hibbert,Alvin J. Ing,Allen James,Graham Meredith,Christopher Merry,Anand Pudipeddi,Tajalli Saghaie,Rajesh Thomas,Claire Thomson,Scott H. Twaddell +53 more
TL;DR: High levels of agreement between TBLC and SLB for both histopathological interpretation and MDD diagnoses were shown, and these data support the clinical utility of TBLC in interstitial lung disease diagnostic algorithms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Baseline characteristics of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: analysis from the Australian Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Registry.
Helen E. Jo,Helen E. Jo,Ian Glaspole,Ian Glaspole,Christopher Grainge,Nicole S L Goh,Nicole S L Goh,Peter Hopkins,Yuben Moodley,Paul N. Reynolds,Sally Chapman,E. Haydn Walters,Christopher Zappala,Heather Allan,Gregory J. Keir,Andrew Hayen,Wendy A Cooper,Annabelle Mahar,Samantha Ellis,Sacha Macansh,Tamera J. Corte,Tamera J. Corte +21 more
TL;DR: Data from the Australian IPF registry shows anti-fibrotic therapy and baseline physiology predict survival in IPF, and patients receivingAnti-f fibrotic medications had better survival than those not on anti- fibrotics medications, independent of underlying disease severity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Corticosteroid suppression of antiviral immunity increases bacterial loads and mucus production in COPD exacerbations
Aran Singanayagam,Nicholas Glanville,Jason Girkin,Yee Man Ching,Andrea Marcellini,James D. Porter,Marie Toussaint,Ross P. Walton,Lydia J. Finney,Julia Aniscenko,Jie Zhu,Maria-Belen Trujillo-Torralbo,Maria Adelaide Calderazzo,Christopher Grainge,Su-Ling Loo,Punnam Chander Veerati,Prabuddha S. Pathinayake,Kristy Nichol,Andrew T. Reid,Phillip James,Roberto Solari,Peter A. B. Wark,Darryl A. Knight,Miriam F. Moffatt,William O.C.M. Cookson,Michael R. Edwards,Patrick Mallia,Nathan W. Bartlett,Nathan W. Bartlett,Sebastian L. Johnston +29 more
TL;DR: It is shown that corticosteroid use impairs innate and adaptive immunity to rhinovirus infection, which is restored by exogenous IFNβ, which raises suggestion that inhaled interferon-β therapy may protect.
