Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass on the distribution and hormone expression of small-intestinal enteroendocrine cells in obese patients with type 2 diabetes
Nicolai Rhee,Nicolai Rhee,Camilla D. Wahlgren,Jens Pedersen,Brynjulf Mortensen,Ebbe Langholz,Erik Wandall,Steffen U. Friis,Peter Vilmann,Sarah Juel Paulsen,Viggo B. Kristiansen,Jacob Jelsing,Louise S. Dalbøge,Steen Seier Poulsen,Jens J. Holst,Tina Vilsbøll,Filip K. Knop +16 more
TL;DR: Numerous alterations in the distribution of enteroendocrine cells and their expression of hormonal genes are seen after RYGB and include increased density of GLP-1, PYY, CCK, GIP- and PC2-positive cells, reduced gene expression of GHRL, SCT and GIP and increased expression of GCG.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enteroendocrine K and L cells in healthy and type 2 diabetic individuals.
Tina Jorsal,Nicolai Rhee,Nicolai Rhee,Jens Pedersen,Camilla D. Wahlgren,Brynjulf Mortensen,Brynjulf Mortensen,Sara L. Jepsen,Jacob Jelsing,Louise S. Dalbøge,Peter Vilmann,Hazem Hassan,Jakob Hendel,Steen Seier Poulsen,Jens J. Holst,Tina Vilsbøll,Filip K. Knop +16 more
TL;DR: The findings provide a detailed description of the distribution of enteroendocrine K and L cells and the expression of their products in the human intestinal tract and demonstrate significant differences between individuals with type 2 diabetes and healthy participants.
Journal ArticleDOI
CAPTURE: a multinational, cross-sectional study of cardiovascular disease prevalence in adults with type 2 diabetes across 13 countries
Ofri Mosenzon,Abdullah M. Alguwaihes,Jose Luis A. Leon,Fahri Bayram,Patrice Darmon,Timothy M. E. Davis,Guillermo Dieuzeide,Kirsten T. Eriksen,Tianpei Hong,Margit S Kaltoft,Csaba Lengyel,Nicolai Rhee,Giuseppina T. Russo,Shinichiro Shirabe,Katerina Urbancova,Sergio Vencio,Capture Study Investigators +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the prevalence of established CVD and its management in adults with Type 2 diabetes across 13 countries from five continents was estimated using the CAPTURE study, with particular reference to blood glucoselowering agents (GLAs: glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists and sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors).
Journal ArticleDOI
Gaps to bridge: Misalignment between perception, reality and actions in obesity
Ian D. Caterson,Assim A. Alfadda,Pernille Auerbach,Walmir Coutinho,Ada Cuevas,Dror Dicker,Dror Dicker,Carly A Hughes,Masato Iwabu,Jae-Heon Kang,Rita Nawar,Ricardo Reynoso,Nicolai Rhee,Georgia Rigas,Javier Salvador,Javier Salvador,Paolo Sbraccia,Verónica Vázquez-Velázquez,Jason C.G. Halford +18 more
TL;DR: This work aimed to identify international perceptions, attitudes, behaviours and barriers to effective obesity care in people with obesity (PwO) and healthcare professionals (HCPs) and determine whether these barriers can be overcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Current evidence for a role of GLP‐1 in Roux‐en‐Y gastric bypass‐induced remission of type 2 diabetes
TL;DR: This article critically evaluates the current evidence for a role of GLP‐1 in RYGB‐induced remission of T2DM and concludes that the former is likely to be a key mediator in the latter.
