Targeted Temperature Management at 33°C versus 36°C after Cardiac Arrest
Niklas Nielsen,Jørn Wetterslev,Tobias Cronberg,David Erlinge,Yvan Gasche,Christian Hassager,Janneke Horn,Jan Hovdenes,Jesper Kjaergaard,Michael A. Kuiper,Tommaso Pellis,Pascal Stammet,Michael Wanscher,Matt P. Wise,Anders Aneman,Nawaf Al-Subaie,Søren Boesgaard,John Bro-Jeppesen,Iole Brunetti,J. F. Bugge,Christopher D. Hingston,Nicole P. Juffermans,Matty Koopmans,Lars Køber,Jørund Langørgen,Gisela Lilja,Jacob E. Møller,Malin Rundgren,Christian Rylander,Ondrej Smid,Christophe Werer,Per Winkel,Hans Friberg,Abstr Act +33 more
TL;DR: In unconscious survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest of presumed cardiac cause, hypothermia at a targetedTemperature of 33°C did not confer a benefit as compared with a targeted temperature of 36°C.
Journal ArticleDOI
Invasive aspergillosis in patients admitted to the intensive care unit with severe influenza: a retrospective cohort study.
Alexander Schauwvlieghe,Bart J. A. Rijnders,Nele Philips,Rosanne Verwijs,Lore Vanderbeke,Carla van Tienen,Katrien Lagrou,Paul E. Verweij,Frank L. van de Veerdonk,Diederik Gommers,Peter E. Spronk,Dennis C J J Bergmans,Astrid Hoedemaekers,Eleni-Rosalina Andrinopoulou,Charlotte H S B van den Berg,Nicole P. Juffermans,Casper J Hodiamont,Alieke G. Vonk,Pieter Depuydt,Jerina Boelens,Joost Wauters +20 more
TL;DR: In this study, influenza was found to be independently associated with invasive pulmonary aspergillosis, along with a higher APACHE II score, male sex, and use of corticosteroids, and is associated with high mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transfusion-related acute lung injury: a clinical review
TL;DR: Attempts to reduce the incidence of TRALI have been to exclude female donors of products with high plasma volume, resulting in a decrease of roughly two-thirds in incidence, however, this strategy has not completely eradicated the complication.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interleukin-1 signaling is essential for host defense during murine pulmonary tuberculosis
Nicole P. Juffermans,Sandrine Florquin,L. Camoglio,Annelies Verbon,Arend H. J. Kolk,Peter Speelman,S. J. H. Van Deventer,T. van der Poll +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that IL-1 plays an important role in the immune response to M. tuberculosis, as reflected by an increased mortality and an enhanced mycobacterial outgrowth in lungs and distant organs and a decrease in the ability of splenocytes to produce interferon-gamma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanical ventilation using non-injurious ventilation settings causes lung injury in the absence of pre-existing lung injury in healthy mice
Esther K. Wolthuis,Alexander P.J. Vlaar,Goda Choi,Joris J. T. H. Roelofs,Nicole P. Juffermans,Marcus J. Schultz +5 more
TL;DR: MV induces VILI, in the absence of a priming pulmonary insult and even with use of relevant (least injurious) ventilator settings, even if the animals are ventilated for a relative short period of time and only after a 'priming' pulmonary insult.
