ABSense: Sensing Electromagnetic Waves on Metasurfaces via Ambient Compilation of Full Absorption

TL;DR: This work proposes a solution to the EM wave sensing problem using the intelligent and networked MS counterparts-the HyperSurfaces (HSFs), without requiring dedicated field sensors, and shows that the proposed workflow is also an ambient EM compiler, i.e., an autonomic HSF that translates high-level EM objectives to corresponding, low- level EM actuation commands.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiwideband Terahertz Communications Via Tunable Graphene-Based Metasurfaces in 6G Networks: Graphene Enables Ultimate Multiwideband THz Wavefront Control

TL;DR: The suitability of the RIS paradigm in indoor THz scenarios for 6G is assessed grounded on the analysis of a tunable graphene-based RIS that can operate in multiple wideband transparency windows, paving the way to the concurrent control of multiple THz bands in the context of 6G networks.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Tunable Perfect Anomalous Reflection in Metasurfaces with Capacitive Lumped Elements

TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate tunable perfect anomalous reflection with metasurfaces incorporating lumped elements, which provides continuous control over the local surface reactance, allowing for controlling the evanescent field distribution and efficiently tilting the reflected wavefront away from the specular direction.

A multi-functional intelligent metasurface: Electromagnetic design accounting for fabrication aspects

TL;DR: The theoretical considerations and the design evolution of a proof-of-concept intelligent metasurface, which can be used as a tunable microwave absorber, as well as a wavefront manipulation and polarization conversion device in reflection, are presented.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Manufacturing of high frequency substrates as software programmable metasurfaces on PCBs with integrated controller nodes

TL;DR: This paper will elaborate on how large scale PCB technologies are deployed for the economical manufacturing of the 4-layer Hypersurface PCB hardware platform with a size of 9"x12", having copper metasurface patches on the top of the board and the electronic controllers as 2mmx2mm WLCSP chips at 400µm pitch assembled at the bottom of the platform.
